Disney initially did not take a position on the legislation, which would ban classroom instruction of<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lgbt\">sexual orientation<\/a><br \/>\n and<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gender-issues\">gender identity<\/a><br \/>\n through the third grade, but, under pressure, the company has since voiced its full-throated opposition.\n<\/p>\n<p>Ramaswamy said on Fox News that one talking point about Disney\u2019s decision to lobby against the Florida legislation is that CEO Bob Chapek\u2019s hand was forced by activist employees who complained and demonstrated against Disney\u2019s neutrality on the matter. Ramaswamy contends that Chapek\u2019s decision was moved by more than just employee pushback.\n<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/larry-fink-defends-blackrock-against-accusations-it-is-woke\">LARRY FINK DEFENDS BLACKROCK AGAINST ACCUSATIONS IT IS \u2018WOKE\u2019<\/a><br \/>\n<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a quieter undercurrent here, too,\u201d Ramaswamy said, pointing out that Disney\u2019s three largest shareholders (who own a combined 15.3% of the company) are<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/blackrock\">BlackRock<\/a><br \/>\n, Vanguard Group, and State Street.\n<\/p>\n<p>Those firms are among the largest asset managers in the United States, and Ramaswamy said they are directly influencing Chapek\u2019s moves. Ramaswamy said the money managers \u201cquietly tell them that exactly these are the kinds of social agendas that they want to see them push.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually, if you\u2019re a CEO in a public company today, you find yourself sandwiched not just between your progressive, woke employees. &#8230; It\u2019s that when you look at your alleged bosses, the \u2018shareholders,\u2019 they\u2019re actually quietly whispering in your ear that they want to see you doing the same things too,\u201d he said. \u201cSo it runs far deeper, and it\u2019s far more complicated.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Ramaswamy pointed out that Disney\u2019s three largest shareholders are unlike an individual investor (for example, Elon Musk, who just bought a<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/how-musk-could-use-the-free-speech-leverage-granted-by-his-twitter-stock-buy\">massive stake<\/a><br \/>\n in Twitter), but are composed of everyday people who entrust institutions, such as BlackRock, Vanguard Group, and State Street, to manage their money.\n<\/p>\n<p>He went on to say that the money managers are \u201cbetraying their true clients\u201d by pushing Disney and other companies to wade into the realm of politics and stakeholder prioritization.\n<\/p>\n<p>Stakeholder capitalism discards the understanding that the singular purpose of a corporation is to serve its shareholders and instead emphasizes providing value to customers, employees, suppliers, and communities. Recent years have seen a<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investors-corporate-activism-drift-away-shareholder-prioritization\">shift on Wall Street toward embracing stakeholder capitalism<\/a><br \/>\n in addition to a focus on environmental, social, and governance standards.\n<\/p>\n<p>Larry Fink, the founder and CEO of BlackRock, has faced criticism for his company\u2019s involvement in issues such as climate change and domestic political matters while conducting business in China, which is accused of committing<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/genocide\">genocide<\/a><br \/>\n against ethnic Uyghurs.\n<\/p>\n<p>In his annual letter to CEOs, Fink rebutted complaints that BlackRock has gone \u201c<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/woke\">woke<\/a><br \/>\n.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStakeholder capitalism is not about politics. It is not a social or ideological agenda.
