They\u2019re not true. And to take one or two situations, each of them unique in their factual circumstances, and to generalize in terms of her position on an issue of that gravity is fundamentally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/dick-durbin-says-questioning-ketanji-brown-jacksons-judicial-record-is-an-unfair-attack\">unfair<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Durbin then admitted that Democrats had also been unfair in previous situations. \u201cBut we\u2019ve done it, too, on the Democratic side, and I\u2019m going to be first to admit, as I look back in history, there are things that should have been handled better when Republican nominees were before us.\u201d Durbin also conceded that \u201cthe majority of Republican senators on the Senate Judiciary Committee, led by the ranking member, Chuck Grassley, I believe were respectful and dealt with the judge in a fair manner, asked tough questions as they were expected to, but did not cross the line into personal attack. There were three or four who broke that rule, as far as I was concerned, but the vast majority of Republican senators were factual, were fair, and were basing their questions on sound legal questions before any Supreme Court nominee\u2019s consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Durbin\u2019s comments drew no sympathy from conservatives. A number of conservative figures responded to clips of Durbin\u2019s remarks on Twitter, pointing out some of the worst examples of Democrats being unfair to Republican nominees. Notable responses included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ComfortablySmug\/status\/1511722803766206469?s=20&#038;t=vhzV_GlMaVOXcUDmC7CN6w\">Comfortably Smug<\/a>, conservative influencer: \u201cAccusing a man of running a gang rape ring in front of his family because you listened to Michael Avenatti\u2026 Yeah you could have \u2018handled that better[,]\u2019 Dick.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/abigailmarone\/status\/1511721709153525768?s=20&#038;t=z2dVq0KnU3qR3fyDoggb1A\">Abigail Marone<\/a>, press secretary for Senator Josh Hawley: \u201cIt\u2019s \u2018fundamentally unfair\u2019 to ask a judicial nominee about her record on the bench?? Okayyyyy sure.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mattdizwhitlock\/status\/1511721247708794888?s=20&#038;t=svbmimMh7cqXnOUoUEfb-A\">Matt Whitlock<\/a>, Republican communicator: \u201c@DickDurbin blocking Estrada specifically because of his race and joining Avenatti to call Kavanaugh an actual gang rapist does not compare to the fair questions Ketanji Brown Jackson refused to answer about her actual record and decisions.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KurtSchlichter\/status\/1511740914070220802?s=20&#038;t=4WlyoQMUSkZgCUCHn1AdaA\">Kurt Schlichter<\/a>, Townhall senior columnist: \u201cWhen they have paid for it, then we can talk about returning to the old rules.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TimJGraham\/status\/1511745497299668994?s=20&#038;t=807ezoo1Saub_b-QDdd0Tg\">Tim Graham<\/a>, NewsBusters executive editor: \u201cThis is a small admission of imperfection. But please ELABORATE. Who was mishandled?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Multiple Republican senators also addressed Democrats\u2019 poor behavior in Judge Jackson\u2019s confirmation hearings. Texas Senator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-chairman-who-presided-over-that-disgrace-was-joe-biden-cruz-savages-vicious-treatment-of-clarence-thomas\">Ted Cruz<\/a> highlighted Democrats\u2019 vicious treatment of Justice Clarence Thomas in his opening statement at Jackson\u2019s hearings in March.
