Lauren Boebert<\/a> asked Becerra to define the term \u201cman,\u201d to which the secretary replied she was \u201clooking at one.\u201d His answer then prompted the Colorado representative to ask the HHS secretary on whether men can get pregnant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnless you know something I don\u2019t, I think the answer\u2019s pretty obvious,\u201d Becerra said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is that answer, sir?\u201d she pressed. \u201cI\u2019m asking you what you know. Can men get pregnant?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not aware of it,\u201d Becerra answered.<\/p>\n<p>Boebert then asked about Becerra previously calling mothers \u201cbirthing persons\u201d in his department\u2019s materials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre mothers not persons?\u201d he answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMothers are persons but it seems to be more inclusive, like you\u2019re trying to include another gender in that,\u201d she said, to which Becerra replied he is \u201call about inclusion.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/10\/human-milk-midwives-nurses-trans-inclusive-vocabulary-chestfeeding-birthing-parent-england-nhs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Human Milk\u2019: Midwives Given New Trans-Inclusive Vocabulary Including \u2018Chestfeeding\u2019 And \u2018Birthing Parent\u2019)\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The term \u201cbirthing people\u201d stemmed from Democratic Missouri <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/06\/cori-bush-nancy-pelosi-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rep. Cori Bush<\/a> at a Democratic oversight committee hearing in 2021. Following the hearing, President Joe Biden\u2019s proposed budget proposal surrounding maternal health used the term to describe <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/07\/kruta-i-earned-the-name-mother-you-wont-demote-me-to-birthing-person\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mothers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Oklahoma <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/11\/sen-james-lankford-challenges-xavier-becerra-birthing-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sen. James Lankford<\/a> pressed Becerra during a June 2021 Senate Finance Committee hearing on the President\u2019s Fiscal Year 2022 Budget. The secretary struggled to define the term \u201cbirthing people,\u201d telling the senator he will review the terminology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom is a pretty good word,\u201d Lankford said at the hearing. \u201cThat\u2019s worked for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Traditional gendered terms have come under dispute in recent years with the rise of gender ideology. When questioned by Republican Tennessee Sen.
