Jerry Nadler instructed all members of the House Judiciary Committee to mute their microphones during a Wednesday hearing after someone was heard cursing in the background.<\/p>\n<p>During a roll call vote on an amendment to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/350\">Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act<\/a>, the office of an unknown member could be heard via a teleconference application. A person\u00a0then apparently spoke into the application, \u201cWhere did that fucking go?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The comments interrupted the roll call, forcing Democratic California Rep. Karen Bass to repeat her vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remind all members to mute themselves,\u201d Nadler said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH (STARTING AT 56:00):<\/strong><\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>The Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, which creates new offices within the Department of Homeland Security, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HouseJudiciary\/status\/1511726247113641991\">passed<\/a> out of the committee along party lines.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic leadership in the House of Representatives has given members the option to participate in hearings remotely since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has also instituted proxy voting, which allows members to vote for each other on the House floor. Republicans have <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/17\/stop-lying-republicans-trash-colleagues-who-use-proxy-voting-to-go-to-a-fundraiser\/\">criticized<\/a> proxy voting, arguing that it violates the Constitution and that members are using the excuse of COVID-19 to attend fundraisers and other more preferable activities.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit filed by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Texas Rep. Democratic New Jersey Rep. Donald Payne seen virtually <a href=\"https:\/\/newjerseyglobe.com\/congress\/payne-attends-congressional-hearing-in-his-underwear-prompting-criticism-from-gop\/\">attending<\/a> a committee hearing in his underwear. Elsewhere, an Ohio state senator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/05\/06\/us\/andrew-brenner-zoom-car-meeting.html\">used<\/a> a green screen in an attempt to hide the fact that he attended an oversight board meeting while driving on the highway.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic New York Rep.
