The fund, established by Congress in 2015, sets money aside to compensate victims who suffered from entities designated by the United States as state sponsors of terrorism, such as the Taliban.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo the extent that this plan is legal,\u201d lawmakers <a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/2022-04-05-JDJ-MJ-NM-to-Klain-re-Havlish.pdf\">wrote<\/a> of Biden\u2019s directive in a letter to the White House, \u201cit deliberately avoids Congressionally-established mechanisms for the compensation of victims of terrorism to benefit a set of politically-connected plaintiffs and trial lawyers at the expense of other victims of terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One lawyer who stands to \u201creap a windfall in attorney\u2019s fees\u201d by representing clients with claims against the Taliban known as the \u201cHavlish Plaintiffs\u201d was intimately involved in White House policy on Afghanistan after the botched American withdrawal in August. <\/p>\n<p>Lee Wolosky, who also represented Russia hoaxer Fiona Hill, was hired by the West Wing in September and worked \u201cwith the National Security Council (NSC) and other administration officials on resettlement, as well as other issues related to the U.S. drawdown in Afghanistan,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/biden-taps-wolosky-on-afghan-resettlement-45abda48-e32d-41cf-8fe6-4217e72faa84.html\">according<\/a> to Axios. The NSC also led the way on how to handle the $3.5 billion worth of Afghanistan assets circumventing the compensatory process created by Congress. Wolosky now works at Jenner &#038; Block representing the Havlish Plaintiffs to a handsome payout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe White House has denied that Wolosky was involved in the Afghanistan Central Bank assets deliberations,\u201d acknowledged Reps. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, Mike Johnson, R-La., and Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., in their joint letter sent Tuesday. \u201cHowever, the White House\u2019s apparent desire to avoid the established VSST Fund process, the steering of assets to plaintiffs represented by a recently-departed White House official, and the sheer amount of money at issue raise considerable questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trio of lawmakers gave White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain an April 19 deadline to provide \u201call documents and communications\u201d related to deliberations surrounding the distribution of the bank\u2019s seized assets and Wolosky\u2019s tenure.<\/p>\n<p>The letter comes as the administration remains embroiled in conflicts stemming from the president\u2019s familial business dealings with overseas actors which openly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/10\/22\/heres-everything-you-need-to-know-about-joe-bidens-latest-scandals\/\">predated<\/a> Biden\u2019s 2020 election but only recently <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/30\/washington-post-new-york-times-deserve-no-credit-for-grudgingly-admitting-what-we-all-knew-about-hunter-biden-in-2020\/\">captured legitimacy<\/a> among Beltway media.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/04\/hunter-biden-grand-jury-witness-was-asked-about-deal-with-chinese-firm-and-the-big-guy\/\">reported<\/a> on a Hunter Biden grand jury honing in on the identity of \u201cthe big guy\u201d in a bombshell email published in October 2020 wherein the anonymous individual was slated to receive 10 percent from a lucrative cash and equity deal. \u201cThe big guy\u201d has long been assumed to refer to President Biden after a former family business partner, Tony Bobulinski, went <a href=\"https:\/\/thefdrlst.wpengine.com\/2020\/10\/22\/hunter-biden-associate-confirms-joe-biden-stood-to-rake-in-millions-from-chinese-business-leaders\/\">on record<\/a> to claim so shortly after the email discussing \u201cremuneration packages\u201d surfaced.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
