BIDEN ENDING TRUMP-ERA BORDER POLICY: The CDC announced it is officially ending Title 42, the controversial policy restricting migrants from coming into the country under the rationale of a public health risk due to COVID \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TheView?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TheView<\/a> panel reacts. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PmnXqIGc64\">https:\/\/t.co\/PmnXqIGc64<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/f77cCWhQTQ\">pic.twitter.com\/f77cCWhQTQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The View (@TheView) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheView\/status\/1511754575119794177?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 6, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Co-host Whoopi Goldberg opened the segment with a comment about Title 42 \u2014 the federal regulation that allows agents to turn would-be asylum seekers away at the border due to concerns about the continued spread of COVID-19 \u2014 and Republican objections to the Biden administration\u2019s plan to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/migrant-tsunami-will-worsen-due-to-title-42-rollback-former-trump-and-biden-border-patrol-chief-says\/\">end its use<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Goldberg noted that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has suggested Republicans might not support the president\u2019s next planned COVID-19-relief effort if the administration lifts Title 42, adding, \u201cI\u2019m not really sure what\u2019s happening here. Should Republicans be using this to hold up this other bill?\u00a0Or are they listening to \u2013 are they listening to Republican voters who want to keep the policy in place? I\u2019m still not sure what \u2013 I thought it was a medical policy also, but \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grisham cut in then, saying that because she was from Arizona, she had seen firsthand what happened when <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/dereliction-of-duty-desantis-blasts-biden-for-ending-title-42-program-that-helped-block-illegal-immigration\/\">illegal immigrants<\/a> were allowed to flow across the border unchecked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI come from a border state so I can speak to it pretty well. Arizona \u2014 20 years I lived there, and I\u2019ve seen what open border policies can do to the country and to the people who are trying to get into this country,\u201d Grisham said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you mean by open border?\u201d co-host Sunny Hostin asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople who are \u2013 well, like this. If they lift this, people are going to go from 7,000 people getting into the country every day to 18,000,\u201d Grisham continued.<\/p>\n<p>Hostin asked, \u201cSo you\u2019ve seen open border policies. What do you mean by that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean by letting people just come in and not enforcing and sending them back. In the previous administration, I\u2019ll just say it that way, we had a zero tolerance \u2013 you need to go back, and you need to come into this country legally, which I agree with,\u201d Grisham added, noting that she believed in creating a path to citizenship for those who had been brought across the border as young children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are welcome here with open arms as long as they come here legally, but when people are able to just cross the borders willy-nilly, there\u2019s also a criminal element, and I\u2019ve seen the human trafficking that is done. There\u2019s people that are called coyotes. They bring women and children across the border and leave them in the desert and do unspeakable things to them, and so to go from 7,000 to 18,000 people daily crossing into our border illegally, I don\u2019t know how we would pay for it. I don\u2019t know where we would put them, and it puts a lot of those people in danger,\u201d Grisham explained.<\/p>\n<p>Hostin later pushed back, saying that anyone who crossed the border and claimed asylum couldn\u2019t be called \u201cillegal,\u201d firing back when asked whether or not it mattered how they crossed the border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does not. When you say they\u2019re coming in illegally, I take umbrage to that, especially because 14,000 Haitians were expelled under the Biden Administration,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Hostin went on to suggest that racism was at the root of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/why-just-africa-sunny-hostin-isnt-sure-bidens-travel-ban-is-any-better-than-trumps\/\">immigration problem<\/a>, noting that no one seemed to be upset about the refugees coming in from Afghanistan and Ukraine and adding, \u201cSo it seems to me that the law is okay for some people, but not okay for people that look like me. I don\u2019t like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are bad people who are also coming into this country,\u201d Grisham pushed back, saying that an open border was like an advertisement to China that fentanyl could be easily trafficked into the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy does this sound like Fox News?\u201d Joy Behar asked then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I\u2019m a Republican,\u201d Grisham reminded her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you spewing talking points here? What are your numbers? I don\u2019t see stats,\u201d Behar continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI lived in Arizona. I saw these things,\u201d Grisham continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow much could you see? You\u2019re one person,\u201d Behar dismissed Grisham\u2019s claim.<\/p>\n<p>Co-host Sara Haines jumped in then to say that she loved the idea of being able to let everyone in, but she wasn\u2019t certain the system was capable of handling the influx.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe problem right now is our boat is not at its strongest. The lifeboat is not at its strongest,\u201d she continued, pointing to the record inflation and other issues. \u201c<\/span>If you say, \u2018I want to save everybody,\u2019 and the boat flips, you save no one. If you can\u2019t put your own mask on first, you can\u2019t help other people.
