And I\u2019ll talk to historians to understand how we even got here in the first place.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Markle has done her own work creating her own narrative; in her March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Markle likened herself to Disney\u2019s \u201cLittle Mermaid,\u201d claiming that in a similar fashion to the cartoon character, she had been silenced but through the interview with Winfrey, she \u201cgot her voice back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/benhenry\/meghan-markle-prince-harry-oprah-interview-little-mermaid\">Buzzfeed News<\/a> reported, Markle told Winfrey, \u201cI was sitting in Nottingham Cottage, and \u2018The Little Mermaid\u2019 came on. And who as an adult really watches \u2018The Little Mermaid\u2019? But it came on, and I was like, \u2018Well, I\u2019m just here all the time so may as well watch this.\u2019 And I went, \u2018Oh, my God, she falls in love with a prince, and because of that she has to lose her voice.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Winfrey, responded by murmuring, \u201cMmmm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Markle added, raising her finger, \u201cBut by the end, she gets her voice back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Winfrey repeated, \u201cShe gets her voice back. And this is what happened here.
