Jan Schakowsky on her vote to ban fracking as prices surge at the pump while on \u2018Squawk Box\u2019 Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Kernen noted how Democratic California Rep. Ro Khanna recently questioned Mike Wirth of Chevron in October as to whether he is \u201cembarrassed as an American company that your production is going up while European counterparts are going down?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wirth reportedly said he was proud of the company, prompting Khanna to ask whether Wirth would\u00a0\u201ccommit right now to matching your European counterparts in reducing the production of oil,\u201d according to Kernen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/25\/democrats-white-house-joe-biden-natural-gas-oil-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Khanna<\/a>\u00a0recently said the U.S. should start <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/10\/23\/joe-biden-opposed-fracking-promises-eliminate-oil-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">drilling<\/a> for more oil in light of the Ukraine crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the short term, yes, we need domestic increase in oil production,\u201d Khanna <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgov.com\/core\/news_articles\/R8HUGST0G1KX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> Bloomberg March 16. \u201cAnd that obviously is going to not be consistent in the very short term with climate aspirations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One day later, Khanna <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/17\/congressional-progressive-caucus-executive-action-agenda-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called for<\/a> sweeping bans on federal <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/24\/nrsc-ad-buy-gasoline-energy-prices-democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">oil<\/a> and gas leasing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it hasn\u2019t even been a year, many members of Congress, 26 members of the House, I don\u2019t know if you\u2019re one of them, voted to try to ban fracking as well as oil and natural gas exports,\u201d Kernen continued. \u201cWere you one of the 26 House Democrats that voted to ban fracking as well as oil and gas production?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe question is what are the oil companies doing,\u201d Schakowsky said as Kernen laughed. \u00a0\u201cYes, I am against fracking, I think it\u2019s a real problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kernen then interjected asking whether she was one of the 26 members of the House that tried to ban fracking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe question is is that the oil companies made a decision rather, in this crisis right now, to raise the cost, to gouge the consumers in some ways,\u201d Schakowsky continued, noting\u00a0oil companies had the option to \u201cincrease their ability right now, not to have to frack, not to have to drill more,\u201d but could simply raise the amount of gas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongresswoman, we\u2019ve all seen what\u2019s happened to the prices of crude oil around the world, WTI, or Ice Brent, the president talked about it a lot and said \u2018it\u2019s nothing we did, it\u2019s because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine that sent the oil prices up above $100 a barrel.\u2019 So if the president can point to what\u2019s actually causing it, why you are saying it\u2019s the oil company? Is it the oil company\u2019s fault we\u2019re over 100 or which is it? Russia\u2019s fault or the oil company\u2019s fault?\u201d Kernen asked.<\/p>\n<p>Schakowsky again said oil companies could be producing more and alleged oil companies are engaging in \u201cwar profiteering \u2026 right now.\u201d She is calling for an extension to pandemic-related legislation to prevent price gouging. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/05\/joe-biden-natural-gas-pipeline-ban-climate-agenda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Biden Admin\u2019s Own Study Confirms The Worst About The Left\u2019s Climate Agenda)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The congresswoman then claimed oil companies are seeing \u201crecord-high profits,\u201d to which Kernen jumped in and clarified \u201cwell, not all time. Only in the last seven years, and for 10 years the oil companies have been severely, have underperformed the rest of the S&#038;P\u2026 so it\u2019s not all time records.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongresswoman, you\u2019d have to admit that Democrats have tried to leave more hydrocarbons in the ground that\u2019s been something for years now that has been \u2013 that\u2019s not true, I just read what Congressman Khanna said, \u00a0\u2018will you match Europe\u2019s cut backs. Aren\u2019t you embarrassed you\u2019re producing so much oil?\u2019 You know that\u2019s where we were until about eight months ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, the oil companies have the capacity right now without having more uses, without doing more drilling to raise the amount of oil they\u2019re producing right now and made a decision not to do that so that they could make more profits, so that they could raise their prices, so they could do stock buybacks, that is just a fact that this is the decision that they made.
