Mike Loychik and Jean Schmidt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurriculum about gender identity and sexuality has no place in K-3 classrooms, period,\u201d Loychik tweeted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why I just introduced a bill to ban curriculum about sexuality and gender identity until 3rd grade in Ohio,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Curriculum about gender identity and sexuality has no place in K-3 classrooms, period.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I just introduced a bill to ban curriculum about sexuality and gender identity until 3rd grade in Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Representative Mike Loychik (@MikeLoychik) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MikeLoychik\/status\/1511365772119052292?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 5, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe classroom is a place that seeks answers for our children without political activism,\u201d Schmidt said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/news\/2022\/04\/05\/ohio-republicans-introduce-version-floridas-dont-say-gay-bill\/9467432002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cParents deserve and should be provided a say in what is taught to their children in schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill also seeks to ban material related to critical race theory, mimicking language from a South Dakota law that restricts divisive concepts in the classroom. The bill specifically includes the prohibition of teaching critical race theory, intersectional theory, the 1619 Project, diversity, equity, and inclusion learning outcomes, and inherited racial guilt.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding its similarities to the Florida law, the Ohio version would be limited from the ability to \u201cteach, use, or provide any curriculum or instructional materials on sexual orientation or gender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, students in 4th-12th grades would be kept from instruction concerning sexual orientation or gender identity that is not \u201cage-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some Ohio opponents of the bill claim the bill is too vague and could cause harm to LGBTQ+ families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is far too much ambiguity in the bills,\u201d Ohio State Board of Education Member Christina Collins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/news\/2022\/04\/05\/ohio-republicans-introduce-version-floridas-dont-say-gay-bill\/9467432002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>, according to the Columbus Dispatch. \u201cThey continue to ignore that Ohio\u2019s districts already have policies around the teaching of controversial issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came under criticism from the left after he signed the state\u2019s Parental Rights in Education legislation last month. The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/desantis-signs-parental-notification-bill-shrugs-off-dont-say-gay-uproar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The governor promised Monday that parents have a \u201cfundamental\u201d role in the education, upbringing, and healthcare of their children, insisting that he will\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/desantis-undeterred-by-disney-criticism-of-florida-parental-rights-bill\">never cave to pressure<\/a>\u00a0from outside groups like Disney on this matter.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>DeSantis noted that there has been much talk about HB 1557, pointing to \u201csloganeering and fake narratives by leftist politicians, by activists, by corporate media.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>While some critics have not read the legislation and are merely guessing what it says through their fake narratives, DeSantis said, \u201cleftist politicians, corporate media outlets, some of these activist groups, they actually have read the bill.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAnd they are sloganeering because they don\u2019t want to admit that they support a lot of the things we are providing protections against,\u201d he said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
