Wade <\/i>in 1973.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The resolution <a href=\"http:\/\/webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us\/cf_pdf\/2021-22%20FLR\/HFLR\/HCR1014%20HFLR.PDF\"><span class=\"s1\">stated,<\/span><\/a> \u201cto recognize January 22, 2022, as the Day of Tears in Oklahoma and to encourage Oklahoma citizens to lower their flags to half-staff to mourn the innocent, preborn children who have lost their lives due to abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201c[O]n January 22, 1973, the majority of the members of the United States Supreme Court erroneously ruled that abortion was a right secured by the Constitution of the United States of America,\u201d it continued, adding, \u201csince that ill-fated day, over sixty-one million (61,000,000) preborn children in the United States have perished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Protesters also gathered at the state Capitol in Oklahoma City on Tuesday in a \u201cBans Off Oklahoma\u201d protest to rally in support of abortion access and against pro-life measures.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThese legislators have continued their relentless attacks on our freedoms,\u201d said Emily Wales, interim president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/04\/05\/1091119507\/oklahoma-legislature-abortion-illegal\"><span class=\"s1\">NPR<\/span><\/a>. \u201cThese restrictions are not about improving the safety of the work that we do. They are about shaming and stigmatizing people who need and deserve abortion access.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOklahoma has been moving some of the most aggressive bans and restrictions that we\u2019ve seen and in the past, we\u2019ve relied on the courts as a backstop to block some of the most egregious laws they propose but we know that\u2019s not true anymore,\u201d Wales also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.koco.com\/article\/oklahoma-protestors-gather-capitol-opposition-abortion-bill\/39642111\"><span class=\"s1\">said<\/span><\/a>, per ABC affiliate KOCO News.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The outlet added:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>Planned Parenthood was joined by several other groups, including the ACLU of Oklahoma and Trust Women, an abortion provider in Oklahoma City. They argue these laws will not stop abortion, just make it unsafe for those seeking one.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">The protest came as the House passed SB 612, which if signed into law would ban all abortions except those carried out to save the mother\u2019s life.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis bill criminalizes abortion, makes it a felony, for the doctor. The penalty is up to ten years in prison and up to $100,000 fine,\u201d explained state Representative Jim Olsen (R), the co-author of the measure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The move comes as the Supreme Court gets ready to make a key decision in the abortion debate in the country.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/florida-passes-15-week-abortion-ban\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a>, the high court heard oral arguments late last year on the <i>Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/i>\u00a0case out of Mississippi over a law there that doesn\u2019t allow abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The court could choose to uphold the Mississippi law, cutting away at the precedent established by\u00a0<i>Planned Parenthood v. Casey\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>Roe v. Wade.\u00a0<\/i>The Justices could also decide to overturn\u00a0<i>Roe\u00a0<\/i>entirely or to strike down the law. If\u00a0<i>Roe v. Wade\u00a0<\/i>is overturned, the decisions regarding abortion would be returned to the states rather than made legal on a broad scale across the country.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Several other states have taken action to pass pro-life legislation.
