Biden\u2019s original extension was to sunset May 1.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The pause initially occurred to provide workers some relief during the coronavirus pandemic. With the pandemic over, the labor market has recovered. Those with student loans have jobs with which to repay what they legally borrowed and are bound to pay.<\/p>\n<p>In total, the administration has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/zackfriedman\/2021\/12\/13\/biden-administration-wont-extend-student-loan-relief-confirms-student-loan-payments-restart-february-1\/?sh=439accff290c\">forgiven<\/a> $12.5 billion of student loan debt for nearly 640,000 students. As of January 31, 2022, \u201cstudent loan borrowers will have received $110 billion of student loan cancellation from 22 months of temporary student loan forbearance,\u201d\u00a0<em>Forbes<\/em>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n<p>The suspension of payments has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/12\/13\/joe-biden-denies-student-loan-payment-extension-payments-to-restart-in-february\/\">benefitted<\/a> about 41 million borrowers, according to the White House. Yet the far-left Democrats have\u00a0called\u00a0on Biden to continue the extension to prevent the \u201cfinancial devastation of millions of borrowers.\u201d Those members include radical Democrats, such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Despite the generous financial help, the pause in payments must continue for the sake of Democrats\u2019 political aspirations, according to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MI).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnthusiasm is really low,\u201d Omar said, citing fears Democrats may not turn out to vote Democrat unless the payment pause is extended. \u201cIt\u2019s important to listen to the people who have sent us to represent them \u2026 and I know that student debt cancellation is a priority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Gokey, an organizer with the Debt Collective, believes if the payment pause is not extended, those living above their means will soon go into default.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Biden restarts payments on May Day we know that nearly 8 million people will be pushed into default,\u201d Gokey said. \u201cWe don\u2019t need to pause this crisis, we need to end it. Biden can cancel all federal student loans with a signature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Biden ordered the Department of Education to study its authority to totally forgive student debt through executive action.
