Jared Polis signed a law on Monday which guarantees the supposed \u201cfundamental right to abortion\u201d and denies all rights to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/04\/horrific-disturbing-evidence-infanticide-aborted-babies-discovered-dc\/\">unborn children<\/a> at any stage of development.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado Democrats created the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/leg.colorado.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/2022A\/bills\/2022a_1279_enr.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noindex noopener noskim\">Reproductive Health Equity Act<\/a>\u00a0in direct response to a case currently being decided by the Supreme Court surrounding Mississippi\u2019s 15-week abortion ban. The case,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/30\/supreme-court-set-to-hear-biggest-challenge-to-roe-v-wade-in-decades\/\">Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>is the most significant challenge\u00a0in decades\u00a0to the Court\u2019s 1973\u00a0<em>Roe v. Wade\u00a0<\/em>decision, which\u00a0declared abortion to be protected by the U.S. Constitution.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201c<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> has been eroded in the last few years,\u201d Polis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2022\/04\/04\/colorado-abortion-rights-state-law\/\">said<\/a> before signing the bill. \u201c<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> has been weakened and many legal pundits conclude that it\u2019s likely a matter of time til the federal protections at the Supreme Court simply cease to exist. We in Colorado simply don\u2019t want to take that risk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The text of the legislation asserts that access to abortion and \u201creproductive healthcare\u201d are \u201cunder attack across the nation,\u201d and insists there are \u201csocial, moral, and economic benefits\u201d when people are allowed to end the lives of their unborn children. The bill also proudly touts Colorado\u2019s history of becoming the first state to decriminalize abortion in 1967, before <em>Roe v. (AP Photo\/David Zalubowski)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>While Colorado did not have any time restrictions on abortions before the law, \u201cit didn\u2019t have any guarantees either,\u201d the <em>Denver Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2022\/04\/04\/colorado-abortion-rights-state-law\/\">reported<\/a>. The new law has no wording related to any kind of time restrictions for abortions, meaning Colorado permits abortions up to birth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201cA pregnant individual has a fundamental right to continue pregnancy and give birth or to have an abortion and to make decisions about how to access that right,\u201d the bill states, notably replacing the word \u201cwoman\u201d for \u201cindividual\u201d even though only women can bare children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The legislation continues, adding that unborn children at any stage of development have no rights under state law.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span> \u201cA fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent or derivative rights under the laws of this state,\u201d the bill reads.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The legislation bars any public entity from denying, restricting, interfering with, or discriminating against \u201can individual\u2019s fundamental right\u201d to abortion and other forms of \u201creproductive healthcare\u201d and overrides local laws, ordinances, and policies.\u00a0Colorado <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/state-policy\/explore\/abortion-policy-absence-roe\">joins<\/a> 15 other states and the District of Columbia in codifying abortion.<\/p>\n<p>In his signing statement, Polis said the bill \u201csimply codifies existing state protections\u201d and said the law does not change the current legal framework for parental notification and \u201censure [s]\u201d no one is forced to perform or have an abortion \u201cagainst their will or conscience.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The bill\u2019s sponsor, House Majority leader Daneya Esgar, claimed before the bill was passed that the state is \u201cprotecting women and people\u2026\u201d\u00a0The bill was reportedly debated for at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2022\/03\/12\/abortion-access-colorado-republican-filibuster\/\">24 hours<\/a>\u00a0before it passed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s more important now than ever for all Colorado to make sure we are protecting women and people who choose to be pregnant or choose to not be pregnant across this great state,\u201d Esgar said, according to the <em>Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>When the state Senate passed the bill in late March, GOP chairwoman Kristi Burton Brown\u00a0called it<span> \u201ca dark day for the Colorado Democrat Party and any individual who respects the sanctity of life,\u201d adding, \u201cIf Jared Polis decides to sign this extreme abortion bill, he will put Colorado\u2019s abortion laws on par with China and North Korea,\u201d pro-life organization Live Action <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/colorado-senate-abortion-limits-governor\/\">reported<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Live Action\u2019s Director of Government Affairs Noah Brandt slammed the bill, saying it does not insist on accountability for doctors if a child is delivered alive during an abortion.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cUnder the rules proposed by this bill, if a child is delivered alive during an abortion the doctors are under no legal compulsion to provide standard medical care as they would in any other circumstance and attempt to preserve the child\u2019s life,\u201d Brandt\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/colorado-senate-abortion-limits-governor\/\">said<\/a>.<span>\u201cMedical providers would listen to the mother\u2019s instructions. which could include not providing life-sustaining medical care to the child, which would lead to the child\u2019s death, which most reasonable people would consider infanticide.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Besides the all-out war against children in-utero, because it defines abortion as a right, the law could also be used to attempt to force medical professionals to commit or participate in abortions.
