The document\u2019s \u201ckey findings\u201d included the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>For mild-to-moderate [Chinese coronavirus] cases, there is encouraging evidence that the studied TCMs, when administered as add-on interventions to conventional treatment, may shorten the time for viral clearance, resolution of clinical symptoms and length of hospital stay when compared to conventional treatment alone. \u2026<\/p>\n<p>There is encouraging evidence that early application of TCM may result in better clinical outcomes for patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Despite inherent limitations, the results from the selected RCTs [randomized controlled trials] justify further investments in clinical trials to evaluate the potential benefits of selected TCMs in the management of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>TCM is an ancient health practice that may <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/science\/traditional-Chinese-medicine\">involve<\/a> herbal supplements (such as tea), specific movements (such as tai chi), or needle application (such as acupuncture). China\u2019s ruling Communist Party has recently co-opted TCM, transforming the holistic methodology into a state-sponsored juggernaut worth an estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/the-world-health-organization-gives-the-nod-to-traditional-chinese-medicine-bad-idea\/\">$50 billion<\/a>, according to <em>Scientific American<\/em>. Beijing\u2019s peddling of TCM as a Communist Party-approved panacea has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/03\/25\/china-floods-hong-kong-traditional-chinese-medicine-fight-coronavirus\/\">extended<\/a> to Chinese coronavirus patients over the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese Communist Party officially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/03\/18\/china-lists-acupuncture-as-recommended-coronavirus-treatment\/\">listed<\/a> acupuncture as a recommended treatment of mild or severe symptoms of the Chinese coronavirus last month. The TCM practice, which targets specific points on a person\u2019s body with thin needles, gained the official state backing in the Chinese Communist Party\u2019s ninth edition of its \u201cCOVID-19 prevention and control guidelines,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202203\/1255114.shtml\">published<\/a> on March 15.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not currently list acupuncture or any other TCM practices among its list of approved Chinese coronavirus treatments.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Scientific American<\/em>\u00a0denounced in April 2019 the W.H.O.\u2019s then-recent announcement that it planned to include TCM remedies in its 11th edition of the \u201cInternational Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD).\u201d The development marked TCM\u2019s first-ever inclusion in the W.H.O.\u2019s ICD.<\/p>\n<p>The magazine<em>\u00a0<\/em>noted that the W.H.O.\u2019s ICD \u201ccategorizes thousands of diseases and influences how doctors treat them; how insurers cover those treatments; and what kind of research is done on which ailments. More than 100 countries rely on the document to determine their medical agendas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo include TCM in the ICD is an egregious lapse in evidence-based thinking and practice,\u201d the\u00a0U.S.-based science magazine\u00a0wrote at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cData supporting the effectiveness of most traditional remedies are scant, at best.
