The video\u2019s English subtitles are inaccurate.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine Feb. 24 after recognizing two separatist governments in eastern Ukraine, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/russias-putin-authorises-military-operations-donbass-domestic-media-2022-02-24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a>. The U.N. reports that more than 1,400 civilians have been killed in the fighting since then.<\/p>\n<p>One video shared on Facebook claims to show Putin declaring war on Kenya. The video shows Putin seated, giving an address in Russian while English subtitles appear at the bottom alleging Putin said he would be launching missiles at the African country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussia targets African Countries with missiles for talking about Russian Ukrainian War!!!\u201d reads the video\u2019s caption. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/02\/24\/fact-check-russian-airplane-struck-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show A Russian Fighter Jet Being Shot Down In Ukraine?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, there is no evidence Putin actually declared war on Kenya. If Putin had made such a move, media outlets would have covered it, yet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=putin+declares+war+on+kenya&#038;source=lnms&#038;tbm=nws&#038;sa=X&#038;ved=2ahUKEwisgLGJj7_2AhUNqHIEHUgQBhkQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&#038;biw=1440&#038;bih=821&#038;dpr=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">none have<\/a>. Kenya\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs <a href=\"https:\/\/mfa.go.ke\/news-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> does not detail any declaration of war from Russia. The Russian Embassy in Kenya\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/russembkenya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter account<\/a> likewise does not mention the Russian military taking any action against Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>In reality, the video shows Putin announcing that he would be sending troops into Ukraine for a \u201cspecial military operation.\u201d In this Feb. 24 speech, he said the aim of the invasion would be to \u201cdemilitarize and denazify Ukraine\u201d and to protect the people of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People\u2019s Republic\u00a0and Luhansk People\u2019s Republic, according to a transcript from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-02-24\/full-transcript-vladimir-putin-s-televised-address-to-russia-on-ukraine-feb-24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bloomberg News<\/a>. Putin does not mention Kenya in the address.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Check Your Fact has debunked numerous false claims related to the war in Ukraine.
