ABC has dropped the star and the show while denying it had anything to do with the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins last year.<\/p>\n<p>Hollywood trade outlet\u00a0<em>Variety<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/tv\/news\/alec-baldwin-match-game-canceled-abc-card-sharks-1235221591\">reports<\/a> \u201cABC\u2019s decision to cancel \u2018Match Game\u2019 is not related to that incident\u201d and new episodes have not been filmed since the since 2020, before the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The last time episodes aired was in summer 2021, according to\u00a0<a class=\"external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/04\/match-game-canceled-abc-alec-baldwin-1234992953\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/04\/match-game-canceled-abc-alec-baldwin-1234992953\/\" data-event-click=\"{\" element>Deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Baldwin representatives did not immediately respond to a\u00a0request for comment from the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The fate of <em>Match Game<\/em> had been the source of speculation in the wake of Baldwin\u2019s accidental shooting of Hutchins on the set of the independent production <em>Rust<\/em> last fall.<\/p>\n<p>The latest revival of <em>Match Game<\/em>\u00a0as hosted by Baldwin debuted in 2016 and ran for five seasons.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>On launching,\u00a0the Emmy-winning actor was tipped to be receiving \u201cone of the highest game-show-hosting salaries ever\u201d for the initial 10-episode series, as Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2016\/04\/28\/alec-baldwin-host-match-game-reboot\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Baldwin said he would donate his fee from the show to his wife Hilaria\u2019s charity.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19357866\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/01\/alecbaldwinhalynahutchins2.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Alec Baldwin and late cinematographer\u00a0Halyna Hutchins. ABC News\/Fred Hayes\/Getty Images for SAGindie<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Produced by Fremantle, the show centered on four contestants competing for $25,000 as they tried to match the answers of six celebrities in a game of fill-in-the-blank.<\/p>\n<p><em>Match Game\u00a0<\/em>originally debuted in 1962 on NBC and ran for seven seasons.<\/p>\n<p>The highly popular game show has been rebooted in several varieties since then, including a crossover with\u00a0<em>Hollywood Squares<\/em>\u00a0in 1982. The series was most recently revived in syndication from 1998-99.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>Variety<\/em>, the celebrity guests on\u00a0its most recent airing\u00a0have covered a broad spectrum of pop culture, including everyone from\u00a0Michael Che,\u00a0Cheryl Hines,\u00a0Jason Alexander,\u00a0and\u00a0Caitlyn Jenner, to\u00a0Ice-T,\u00a0J.B.
