American Airlines was a close second, with 364 cancelations on Saturday and 211 on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Budget airlines Spirit canceled the largest percentage of flights over the weekend, with 27 percent of flights canceled on both Saturday and Sunday. JetBlue Airlines <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/travel\/airline-news\/2022\/04\/03\/flight-cancellations-southwest-spirit-jetblue-american-airlines\/7262072001\/\">canceled<\/a> 15 percent of its flights on Saturday and 25 percent on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The weekend cancelations poured into Monday, with 4,345 flights delayed into or out of the United States and 711 canceled. Globally, there were 11,523 flights delayed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_12888867\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2020\/03\/JetBlue-takeoff-getty.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">An Airbus A321-231 operated by JetBlue takes off from JFK Airport. JetBlue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/airlines-cancel-3300-us-flights-weekend-rcna22758\">cited<\/a> \u201csevere weather in the Southeast and multiple air traffic control delay programs,\u201d as a reason for the delays. Southwest Airlines <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/airlines-cancel-3300-us-flights-weekend-rcna22758\">blamed<\/a> \u201cweather and airspace congestion\u201d and a \u201ctechnology issue\u201d for their cancelations and delays.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska Airlines, whose cancelations affected more than 37,000 customers, did not give a reason for the delays but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/business\/2022\/04\/alaska-airlines-weekend-cancellations-have-affected-more-than-37000-passengers.html\">referred<\/a>\u00a0to contract negotiations with its pilots in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlaska Airlines failed to properly plan for increased travel demand and take the steps necessary to ensure it attracted and retained pilots,\u201d the pilots\u2019 union said.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden\u2019s Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has remained silent while cancelations and delays hit airlines across the country. Interestingly, this is not the first wave of mass flight cancelations to happen under Biden\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n<p>Last fall, airlines similarly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/10\/southwest-cancels-1800-flights-days-pilots-fight-vaccine-mandates\/\">canceled<\/a>\u00a0or delayed thousands of flights over the holiday season while millions of Americans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/27\/over-thousand-u-s-flights-canceled-monday\/\">traveled<\/a> for Thanksgiving and\u00a0Christmas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thousands of flights were canceled or delayed over the weekend as travelers were trying to reach their destinations amid spring break travel.
