FOX 11 reported Thursday that some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/auto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drivers<\/a> with license plates from the Golden State are traveling as far as Tijuana.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/biden-administration-oil-reserves-release-million-barrels-daily\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>BIDEN ADMINISTRATION TO RELEASE 1M BARRELS OF OIL DAILY FROM US RESERVES<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gas there, the outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/news\/california-drivers-head-to-mexico-for-cheaper-gas-as-prices-soar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a>, is being offered at prices at least $2 less per gallon than in Southern California.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With some stations in California continuing to charge more than $7 per gallon, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden administration<\/a> has moved to cut fuel prices &#8220;fairly significantly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Energy prices have spiked after the U.S. and allies imposed sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline image-ct\">\n<div class=\"m\"><source media=\"(max-width: 767px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 768px) and (max-width: 1023px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1024px) and (max-width: 1279px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1280px)\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/a57.foxnews.com\/static.foxbusiness.com\/foxbusiness.com\/content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/931\/523\/CA-Gas-Station.jpg?ve=1&#038;tl=1\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p><span>Gas prices are displayed at a gas station Friday, March 11, 2022, in Long Beach, Calif.\u00a0<\/span><span> (AP Photo\/Ashley Landis)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>On Thursday, President Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/biden-administration-oil-reserves-release-million-barrels-daily\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ordered<\/a> the release of 1 million barrels of oil per day from the nation\u2019s strategic petroleum reserve for six months.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Energy Department, more than 568 million barrels of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oil<\/a> were held in the reserve as of March 25.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The president said that it was not known how much gasoline prices could drop as a result of this action, but noted it might be &#8220;anything from 10 cents to 35 cents a gallon.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bottom line is if we want lower gas prices we need to have more oil supply right now,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This is a moment of consequence and peril for the world, and pain at the pump for American families.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ON FOX BUSINESS<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The president also wants Congress to impose financial penalties on oil and gas companies that lease public lands but are not producing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said he will invoke the Defense Production Act to encourage the mining of critical minerals for batteries in electric vehicles and tried to shame oil companies he said are focused on profits instead of putting out more barrels.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the AAA, gas is averaging about $4.23 a gallon, compared with $2.87 last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"featured featured-video video-ct\">\n<div class=\"contain\">\n<div class=\"info\">\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p>Gas prices continue to rise as inflation surges in the U.S. FOX Business&#8217;
