This estimate is based upon current demand for X gender markers on driver\u2019s licenses in states which allow such an option.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The report explained, \u201cthe average number of driver\u2019s licenses with X gender markers issued per year in the 18 states with available data (13,804) was multiplied by 0.425 to create an estimate of how many passports with X gender markers may be requested and issued per year in these states (5,866).\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This estimate was then \u201cdivided by the total population of nonbinary LGBTQ people ages 18-60 estimated to live in these states, to create an estimated percentage of nonbinary LGBTQ people who would request passports with an X gender marker per year (1.37%).\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The percentage was multiplied by the total estimated amount \u201cof nonbinary LGBTQ people ages 18-60 in the United States (1,219,000),\u00a0to create an estimate of the number of passports with X gender markers that may be requested or issued per year (16,700).\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The report noted that it includes several assumptions when determining the estimated amount. It also pointed out how it did not consider any changes in desire for the \u201cX\u201d marker over the future, noting how the younger demographic is more likely to \u201cidentify as nonbinary\u201d than people who are older.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/changing-america\/respect\/diversity-inclusion\/3258443-nearly-17000-americans-may-request-gender-x-passport-this-year\/\">reported<\/a> that 21 states and the District of Columbia currently permit residents to choose an \u2018X\u2019 gender marker on driver\u2019s licenses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-admin-rolls-out-gender-neutral-passports-americans-can-now-identify-as-x\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> last week, starting this month, U.S. citizens can select \u201cX\u201d as their gender on their passport instead of choosing male or female.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Jessica Stern, U.S. special diplomatic envoy for LGBTQ rights,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\/out-politics-and-policy\/gender-neutral-x-passports-will-available-april-rcna22292\"><span class=\"s1\">stated<\/span><\/a>\u00a0that humans \u201cdo not always fit within a male or female category around the world,\u201d during her announcement about the rollout of the \u201cX\u201d addition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe addition of a third gender marker propels the U.S. forward toward ensuring that our administrative systems account for the diversity of gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics among U.S. citizens,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In June of last year, Secretary of State Antony Blinken <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/proposing-changes-to-the-departments-policies-on-gender-on-u-s-passports-and-consular-reports-of-birth-abroad\/\"><span class=\"s1\">discussed<\/span><\/a> changes to policy, saying the State Department \u201cwill be taking further steps toward ensuring the fair treatment of LGBTQI+ U.S. citizens, regardless of their gender or sex, by beginning the process of updating our procedures for the issuance of U.S. Passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA).\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cMost immediately, we will be updating our procedures to allow applicants to self-select their gender as \u2018M\u2019 or \u2018F\u2019 and will no longer require medical certification if an applicant\u2019s self-selected gender does not match the gender on their other citizenship or identity documents.\u00a0 The Department has begun moving towards adding a gender marker for non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming persons applying for a passport or CRBA,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The TSA is also <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/changing-america\/respect\/diversity-inclusion\/3258443-nearly-17000-americans-may-request-gender-x-passport-this-year\/\"><span class=\"s1\">updating<\/span><\/a> its policy for gender markers on its \u201cTSA PreCheck\u201d system.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The TSA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsa.gov\/transgender-passengers\"><span class=\"s1\">stated<\/span><\/a>, \u201cBeginning in April 2022, a TSA PreCheck\u00ae applicant\u00a0can select the gender they would like saved in their\u00a0TSA\u00a0PreCheck\u00ae record simply by selecting \u2018M\u2019 or \u2018F\u2019 during the enrollment \/ renewal process. The\u00a0gender selected does not need to match the gender on supporting documentation, such as birth certificate, passport, or state-issued ID.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cTSA PreCheck\u00ae is also working to include an \u2018X\u2019 gender marker option on its application to ensure the TSA PreCheck\u00ae program accurately reflects traveler gender and keeps pace with identity documents that offer the \u2018X\u2019\u00a0gender marker option.\u00a0 TSA expects this update to be complete by the end of this year,\u201d it added.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The move comes as the Biden administration continues to push for more policies promoting transgenderism.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Last week, on the \u201cTransgender Day of Visibility,\u201d the Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/03\/31\/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-advances-equality-and-visibility-for-transgender-americans\/\"><span class=\"s1\">released<\/span><\/a> a statement saying:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>Every American deserves the freedom to be themselves.
