Jared Polis signed an abortion bill into law Monday that legalizes abortion as a \u201cright\u201d in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Polis signed Colorado HB 22-1279, the Reproductive Health Equity Act, which passed the state Senate Mar. 23 by a vote of 20-15 and allows access to abortion for pregnant women up until birth, <a href=\"https:\/\/leg.colorado.gov\/bills\/hb22-1279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the Colorado legislature.<\/p>\n<p>The law prohibits local or state governments from enacting laws intended to \u201cdeny, restrict, interfere with or discriminate against an individual\u2019s fundamental right to use or refuse contraception or to continue a pregnancy and give birth or to have an abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA pregnant individual has a fundamental right to continue a pregnancy and give birth or to have an abortion and to make decisions about how to exercise that right,\u201d the law <a href=\"https:\/\/leg.colorado.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/2022A\/bills\/2022a_1279_enr.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stated<\/a>. \u201cA fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent or derivative rights under the laws of this state.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Besides the all-out war against children in-utero, because it defines abortion as a right, the law could also be used to attempt to force medical professionals to commit or participate in abortions. There are zero conscience protections in the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lila Rose (@LilaGraceRose) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LilaGraceRose\/status\/1511078109717557248?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 4, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The act counters Republican lead opposition to on-demand abortion, such as laws passed in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/19\/texas-abbott-signs-heartbeat-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Texas<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/22\/oklahoma-lawmakers-pass-texas-style-pro-life-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oklahoma<\/a>\u00a0that stop abortions from taking place from conception or after the infant\u2019s heartbeat is detected. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/02\/joe-biden-questioned-abortion-stance-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED:\u00a0Reporter Tries To Press Biden On Abortion Stance)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccess to abortion and reproductive health care is currently under attack across the nation,\u201d the Colorado act stated. \u201cImpending federal court cases \u2026 jeopardize access to legal abortion care for tens of millions of people, particularly those living in most Southern and Midwestern states.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Colorado legislature argued that access to abortion up until birth will allow Colorado residents \u201cto pursue personal, educational, financial, and familial goals\u201d and \u201cdecrease the health and socioeconomic disparities disproportionately faced by people of color and people with low incomes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolitically motivated, medically inappropriate restrictions on health care have no place in our statutes or our medical offices,\u201d the law stated.<\/p>\n<p>Polis said the Reproductive Health Equity Act\u00a0would keep abortion legal in Colorado regardless of future U.S. Supreme Court decisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo matter what the Supreme Court does in the future, people, women in Colorado will be able to choose when and if they have children,\u201d Polis said at Monday\u2019s bill signing ceremony. \u201cWe want to make sure that our state is a place where everyone can live and work and thrive and raise a family on their own terms.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Under the Reproductive Health Equity Act, doctors would not be required to give babies delivered alive standard medical care to save the child\u2019s life, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/colorado-infanticide-force-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to Live Action\u2019s Director of Government Affairs Noah Brandt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMedical providers would listen to the mother\u2019s instructions[,] which could include not providing life-sustaining medical care to the child, which would lead to the child\u2019s death, which most reasonable people would consider infanticide.
