Discharge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rules.senate.gov\/rules-of-the-senate\">motions<\/a> allow Congress to advance bills or nominees out of committees for a full vote when the committees refuse to advance the bills or nominees. Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins, the only Republican to previously announce <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/30\/maine-senator-susan-collins-support-ketanji-brown-jackson-supreme-court-biden-choice\/\">support<\/a> for Jackson\u2019s nomination, voted with Democrats in favor of the discharge motion.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Mitt Romney of Utah also voted to advance Jackson\u2019s nomination. Both will support Jackson\u2019s nomination in a final vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy support rests on Judge Jackson\u2019s qualifications, which no one questions; her demonstrated judicial independence; her demeanor and temperament; and the important perspective she would bring to the court as a replacement for Justice Breyer,\u201d Murkowski said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mkraju\/status\/1511104940407762952\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile I do not expect to agree with every decision she may make on the Court, I believe that she more than meets the standard of excellence and integrity,\u201d Romney <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenatorRomney\/status\/1511106814175330305\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The vote to move Jackson\u2019s nomination out of committee was delayed for several hours after Democratic California Sen. Alex Padilla\u2019s Sunday flight from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/story\/2022-04-04\/senate-panel-judge-ketanji-brown-jacksons-supreme-court-nomination\">cancelled<\/a> due to a fellow passenger\u2019s medical emergency. Padilla arrived at the Capitol for the Senate Judiciary Committee vote shortly after 4:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Collins, and Murkowski previously <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/14\/supreme-court-dc-circuit-merrick-garland\/\">voted<\/a> to confirm Jackson to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Graham already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgraham.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/press-releases?ID=0F53FB52-188E-42B1-9B5E-897011C66763\">announced<\/a> he would vote against Jackson\u2019s confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJudge Jackson is an outstanding nominee.
