These windmills \u201ccomprise 12,000 megawatts of Texas\u2019 installed wind generation capacity, although those West Texas turbines don\u2019t typically spin to their full generation capacity this time of year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Over the past five years, Texas has grown increasingly reliant upon wind energy. In 2015, wind represented 11% of the state\u2019s energy portfolio. In 2020, it was 23%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Monday evening, Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson pointed out the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/tucker-carlson-texas-green-new-deal-climate-catastrophe\"><span>failures<\/span><\/a> <span>of ambitious wind policies during his prime time program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cRunning out of energy in Texas is like starving to death at the grocery store,\u201d noted Carlson. \u201cYou can only do it on purpose, and Texas did.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cRather than celebrate and benefit from their state\u2019s vast natural resources, politicians took the fashionable route and became recklessly reliant on so-called alternative energy, meaning windmills,\u201d he added. \u201cThe windmills failed like the silly fashion accessories they are, and people in Texas died.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), however, believes that Texas\u2019 green energy policies are not extensive enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe infrastructure failures in Texas are quite literally what happens when you *don\u2019t* pursue a Green New Deal,\u201d she<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1361903282667589634\"><span>tweeted<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cWeak on sweeping next-gen public infrastructure investments, little focus on equity so communities are left behind, climate deniers in leadership so they don\u2019t long prep for disaster.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>California<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Thanks to its insistence on employing green energy solutions, blackouts are a relatively common occurrence in the Golden State.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the summer of 2020, California \u2014 which boasts an economy nearly as large as Germany\u2019s and is home to America\u2019s largest technology innovators \u2014<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ca-dependent-on-solar-power-has-rolling-blackouts-in-heat-wave-hint-the-sun-sets-at-night\"><span>experienced<\/span><\/a> <span>power outages due to a heatwave that strained the electric grid. As with the situation in Texas, much of the problem in California was attributable to renewable energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The California Independent System Operator \u2014 which runs the state\u2019s grid \u2014 decided to turn off power due to a lack of available supply. The problem was worse in the evenings, when the state\u2019s extensive network of solar farms began to shut down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-newsom-ban-epa\"><span>used<\/span><\/a> <span>the situation as grounds to criticize Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) after he tried to ban the sale of gas-powered cars by 2035.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBeyond the significant questions of legality and the fact that consumer demand for the type of vehicle you would mandate has never met the aspirations of California\u2019s political leadership, your state is already struggling to maintain reliable electricity for today\u2019s demands,\u201d Wheeler said in a letter to the Democratic governor. \u201cCalifornia\u2019s record of rolling blackouts \u2014 unprecedented in size and scope \u2014 coupled with recent requests to neighboring states for power begs the question of how you expect to run an electric car fleet that will come with significant increases in electricity demand, when you can\u2019t even keep the lights on today.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhile it is tempting for federal or state agencies to regulate with a particular technology in mind, it is far more productive to provide innovators the freedom to develop the technologies of tomorrow,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Australia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>After it passed an aggressive carbon tax, the Land Down Under experienced economic calamity so severe that it was forced to repeal the tax entirely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Labor party<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instituteforenergyresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Carbon-Tax-Policy-BriefFinalText-1.pdf\"><span>passed<\/span><\/a> <span>the Clean Energy Act in 2011, implementing a carbon tax at a rate of 23 Australian dollars (AUD) per ton. The rate rose to 24 AUD in the next year, and facilities emitting more than 25,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually were subjected to additional regulation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.au\/Details\/C2011A00131\"><span>legislation<\/span><\/a> <span>originally sought to \u201csupport the development of an effective global response to climate change\u201d and \u201cput a price on greenhouse gas emissions in a way that encourages investment in clean energy, supports jobs and competitiveness in the economy, and supports Australia\u2019s economic growth while reducing pollution.\u201d However, the policy almost immediately achieved the opposite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One economist found that household electricity prices rose by 15% within the first year of the legislation\u2019s passage. Up to 19% of Australian households\u2019 energy expenses were the direct result of the new act and its accompanying regulations.
