The first was Michigan coach Steve Fisher, who was promoted to interim head coach right before the tournament, guiding the Wolverines to the 1989 national championship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s been a special season for North Carolina and Davis, going on an epic run to even make the NCAA tournament, and then defeating one-seed Baylor, four-seed UCLA, and two-seed Duke on their way to the national championship game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Following the Tar Heels upset of Duke on Saturday \u2014 sending Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski into retirement \u2014 Davis discussed keeping God in mind throughout the game as well as the season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s a place of thankfulness, humbleness, humility, to be able to be in this position,\u201d Davis said. \u201cI\u2019ve often said that my job, it\u2019s like I\u2019m on a mission field. Like, this is service. I\u2019m trying to help these kids. And I\u2019m just trying to give back everything that Coach [Dean] Smith and Coach [Bill] Guthridge gave to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhether it\u2019s on the court, in the classroom, in the community, that\u2019s my job,\u201d Davis continued. \u201cIf I\u2019m only coaching basketball, then I\u2019m not doing my job. And so I know that Jesus allowed me to be in this position and he\u2019s put me in this position to be a light. And that\u2019s what I want to do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It was not the first time that Davis had discussed his faith at the Final Four, telling reporters last Friday that his relationship with Jesus is the \u201cfoundation\u201d of who he is.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI mean, the foundation of who I am is my relationship with Jesus,\u201d Davis said. \u201cAnd so whether it\u2019s coaching, whether it\u2019s my marriage, whether it\u2019s my three kids, decision-making, everything is filtered through my faith.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI can\u2019t do anything without it,\u201d Davis added. \u201cIt\u2019s not me sharing it, it\u2019s me being me. And so that\u2019s how I roll every day. And that\u2019s just who I am.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe foundation of who I am is my relationship with Jesus. Agbaji is coming off of a brilliant performance in the national semifinal game against Villanova, scoring 21 points on 6-7 shooting from beyond the arc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cDefensively, I think the biggest thing is transition defense,\u201d Davis said Sunday. \u201cOn film, they appear to be the fastest transition team that I\u2019ve seen all year, whether it\u2019s on made or missed baskets, they sprint to offense. And so it\u2019s really important for us that our transition defense \u2014 we always have an end game. And our end game in transition defense is no layups or dunks, no pitch-ahead lace-up three\u2019s, make them make two passes or more so the defense can get set.
