Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/director-general\/speeches\/detail\/who-director-general-s-opening-remarks-at-the-who-press-conference-30-march-2022\">said<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[A] week has passed since the truce was announced, but no food has been allowed into Tigray yet,\u201d Tedros said at a regular press conference on March 30.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Tedros heads the W.H.O., which is the international public health arm of the United Nations (U.N.). The U.N.\u2019s food assistance branch, known as the World Food Program (WFP), has for months spearheaded a campaign calling for Ethiopia\u2019s government to allow humanitarian aid shipments into Tigray. Prior to leading the W.H.O., Tedros \u2013 an ethnic Tigray \u2013 served in various top positions in the Ethiopian government during the rule of the\u00a0Tigray People\u2019s Liberation Front (T.P.L.F.), the Marxist organization that caused the current war. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is a member of an Ethiopian ethnic majority group called the Oromo. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 for helping to end a war between Ethiopia and Eritrea.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15056857\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2020\/11\/Tedros-Adhanom-Ghebreyesus.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">World Health Organization (W.H.O.) (FABRICE COFFRINI\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>An anonymous Ethiopian government official allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/africa\/ethiopia-who-director-general-works-as-tplf-diplomat\/2046193\">told<\/a> Anadolu Agency in November 2020 that Tedros was \u201cfully engaged in soliciting diplomatic and military support\u201d for the TPLF and had worked as a de facto \u201cdiplomat\u201d for the group. Anadolu Agency, which is a Turkish state-run news outlet, reported the allegation on November 17, 2020, just days after Ethiopia\u2019s civil war began. Tedros has repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/africa\/2021\/12\/29\/w-h-o-chief-tedros-marxist-political-party-accused-of-mass-rape-murder-in-ethiopia\/\">denied<\/a> any involvement in Ethiopia\u2019s internal conflict.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Addis Ababa conceded to the U.N.\u2019s demands on March 24 when it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/africa\/2022\/03\/26\/ethiopian-civil-war-pauses-humanitarian-truce-allow-aid-delivery\/\">proposed<\/a> a ceasefire between federal Ethiopian troops and the TPLF. The two entities have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/africa\/2022\/03\/18\/ethiopia-purges-thousands-of-officials-as-civil-war-drags-on\/\">engaged<\/a> in a nearly 17-month-long civil war since November 2020, but the TPLF\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/live-news\/20220325-tigray-rebels-agree-to-cessation-of-hostilities\">agreed<\/a> on March 25 to honor an indefinite \u201ccessation in hostilities\u201d to allow shipments of much-needed humanitarian aid passage into Tigray.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo optimize the success of the humanitarian truce, the government calls upon the insurgents in Tigray to desist from all acts of further aggression and withdraw from areas they have occupied in neighboring regions,\u201d Ethiopia\u2019s Government Communication Service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/ethiopia-tigray-forces-accept-humanitarian-cease-fire\/a-61248941\">said<\/a> in a press release on March 24.<\/p>\n<p>The WFP estimated in January that <a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2022\/01\/1110802\">40 percent<\/a> of Tigray\u2019s population of 5.5 million was \u201csuffering an extreme lack of food\u201d due to instability caused by Ethiopia\u2019s civil war.
