But that opinion runs in stark contrast to other members of her party, many of whom have blasted Florida\u2019s law as hateful and transphobic, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I first heard about Florida\u2019s Parental Rights bill, I was shocked it only protects children K-3. Third grade? How about 12th grade\u2014or not at all,\u201d Gabbard <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TulsiGabbard\/status\/1510925782322860041?s=20&#038;t=J6pw7x58UmxkjiU49OlnOA\">tweeted<\/a> alongside a video explaining her stance in more detail.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Gabbard noted in the video that Americans across have seen that \u201cparental rights are under attack all across the country as the government tries to usurp parents\u2019 rights and responsibility to raise their own children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, we should all support the Parental Rights in Education bill that recently passed in Florida, which very simply bans government and government schools from indoctrinating woke sexual values in our schools to a captive audience, a captive audience that is by law required to attend,\u201d she continued before saying that it should protect all grades.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, government has no place in our personal lives. Government has no place in our bedrooms,\u201d Gabbard declared. \u201cParents are the ones responsible for raising their kids and instilling in them a moral foundation, not the government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Democrat then stated that government-run schools should be focusing on the basics of education and equipping students with the ability to think critically and for themselves while noting that schools are \u201cfailing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNationally, 34% of students are below basic reading level in the fourth grade, 25% of high school graduates are functionally illiterate,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>To address that situation, she argued that America would see \u201cliteracy rates improve and set our young people up for success\u201d if kids were taught \u201cthe fundamentals\u00a0 \u2014 things like English, math, science, civics, history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ll be thinking logically, thinking critically, and thinking for themselves,\u201d she added. \u201cThis is what our public schools should focus on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But that is not what President Joe Biden had to say about the law.<\/p>\n<p>On the day that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) signed the law, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS\/status\/1508533470091522059?s=20&#038;t=4UwNLyB4IcHF-iNdRNax_g\">tweeted<\/a>, \u201cEvery student deserves to feel safe and welcome in the classroom.\u201d That statement isn\u2019t controversial, but in Biden\u2019s mind that implies that \u201cLGBTQI+ youth deserve to be affirmed and accepted just as they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy Administration will continue to fight for dignity and opportunity for every student and family \u2014 in Florida and around the country,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS\/status\/1508533470091522059?s=20&#038;t=4UwNLyB4IcHF-iNdRNax_g\">added<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, it became clear that \u201caffirmed and accepted\u201d potentially means providing puberty blockers and other surgeries to assist in sex changes for minors who believe they should be the opposite sex.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/white-house-early-trans-surgeries-hormones-are-crucial-for-kids-teens-who-identify-as-trans\">reported<\/a> that the White House shared literature from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health\u00a0arguing that \u201cGender-affirming care is a supportive form of healthcare. It consists of an array of services that may include medical, surgical, mental health, and non-medical services for transgender and nonbinary people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under that framework, it is reasonable to assume that Biden and other Democrats would likely support a teacher being legally allowed to instruct a Floridian minor on how to change their gender while providing resources for \u201csupportive\u201d healthcare \u2014 all without informing the parents \u2014 if it meant the student felt \u201caffirmed and accepted.\u201d Florida\u2019s Parental Rights In Education law prevents that from happening and provides legal recourse for parents who suspect teachers may have violated the law.<\/p>\n<p>Even if Gabbard differs from Democratic leadership on the law, recent polls indicate that the majority of Americans \u2014 including Democratic voters \u2014 support the law. A Daily Wire exclusive poll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/exclusive-poll-over-60-of-americans-back-floridas-limits-on-k-3-lessons-on-sexual-orientation-and-gender-identity\">recently showed<\/a> that 64% of all Americans \u201csupport the Florida bill\u2019s ban on classroom instructions on sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K-3, or at any level if it is not presented in a manner that is age or developmentally appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While it is obvious that the Democratic Party will not agree with Gabbard\u2019s stance on the matter anytime soon, the question now is whether or not Republican leadership agrees with Gabbard\u2019s stance as well.<\/p>\n<p>To that extent, at least one conservative concurs with Gabbard. Former Trump advisor, Steve Cortes, tweeted, \u201c[Tulsi Gabbard] is right.
