The problem is simple. The American people have lost confidence in him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden has blamed the massive price hikes on Russian President Putin\u2019s war in Ukraine. Biden\u2019s administration has coined the terms \u201cPutin\u2019s price hike\u201d and \u201cPutin\u2019s gas hike.\u201d But those communication gimmicks have not improved America\u2019s economic position or Biden\u2019s approval rating. Last year, Biden and the Democrats passed a massive stimulus package, which many experts believe fueled inflation. Biden also kept coronavirus restrictions on businesses throughout 2021, further hurting the economy\u2019s supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of\u00a0Biden, I think these can only be called rough political times,\u201d Julian Zelizer, a Princeton University professor of history and public affairs, said. \u201cAt least going into the midterm, these poor perceptions of his leadership and the inflationary pressures will weigh him and the Democrats down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Polls show that Zelizer is correct. Seventy-one\u00a0percent of Americans\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/28\/poll-71-percent-say-bidens-america-headed-wrong-direction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">believe<\/a>\u00a0the nation is headed in the wrong direction. According to a January poll, Republicans\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?client=internal-element-cse&#038;cx=partner-pub-9229289037503472:6795176714&#038;q=https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/midterm-election\/2022\/02\/15\/trafalgar-poll-republicans-show-12-point-lead-over-democrats-on-generic-ballot\/&#038;sa=U&#038;ved=2ahUKEwjPt6-A5fD2AhVdpXIEHSqhDdoQFnoECAcQAg&#038;usg=AOvVaw3qyyoG5WR3qF-q6qkdPCYZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">led<\/a>\u00a0Democrats on a generic ballot by 12 points. The poll is significant because it reveals the party for which Americans will vote without knowing the specific candidate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">\u201cThings could change,\u201d David Axelrod, an adviser to former President Barack Obama, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/midterm-election\/2022\/03\/31\/democrat-insiders-fear-screwing-up-midterms-gdammit-man-its-infuriating\/\">told<\/a> <em>Politico<\/em>. \u201cBut with only a quarter of the country believing things are headed in the right direction, the president sitting at a 40 or 42 [percent] approval and inflation at a 40-year high, the atmosphere clearly is not promising for Democrats to buck historical trends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">Biden is not just suffering from inflation.
