The agency is also mulling a fifth shot for those most vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>Following the FDA approval, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also recommended another booster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Rochelle Walensky, CDC\u2019s director, said it was especially important for older Americans \u2014 those 65 and older \u2014 and the 50-somethings with chronic illnesses such as heart disease or diabetes to consider another shot,\u201d the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fda-authorizes-second-covid-booster-33e81ee1daddd9ff04c136db620aa1ae\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are the most likely to benefit from receiving an additional booster dose at this time,\u201d Walensky said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be needed in order to keep hospitalizations down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now, the way that we have seen, it is necessary, a fourth booster right now. The protection that you are getting from the third, it is good enough, actually quite good for hospitalizations and deaths,\u201d Bourla said while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/albert-bourla-face-the-nation-full-transcript-03-13-2022\/\">appearing<\/a> on CBS\u2019s \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not that good against infections but doesn\u2019t last very long. But we are just submitting those data to the FDA [Food and Drug Administration], and then we will see what the experts also will say outside Pfizer,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/03\/11\/pfizer-planning-to-submit-data-on-4th-covid-shot-soon-while-working-on-vaccine-for-all-variants.html\">told<\/a> CNBC that \u201cIt\u2019s clear that there is a need in an environment of Omicron to boost the immune response,\u201d he said while appearing.<\/p>\n<p>Show host Margaret Brennan asked Bourla if his company can avoid the confusion that swirled around the first booster shot.\u00a0\u201cI think so.
