Lauderdale, Tampa and Orlando, as well as Baltimore, New York and other airports around the country.<\/p>\n<p>JetBlue, Southwest, Alaska Airlines, Frontier, Spirit and American Airlines were most affected, according to FlightAware, with JetBlue and Spirit canceling one-third of Sunday\u2019s scheduled flights.<\/p>\n<p>The problems pose significant revenue challenges for airlines already struggling to return services to pre-coronavirus pandemic levels.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Southwest Airlines announced cuts to their flight schedule on Thursday after thousands of canceled flights earlier this month reportedly cost them $75 million. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wo1q6A5TUi\">https:\/\/t.co\/wo1q6A5TUi<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1451301417168379910?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Local news\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/news\/local\/weather-alert-day-saturday-starts-off-dry-with-high-winds-hail-possible-this-afternoon\/NBUOAOF4MJCEBPZVZFBZTHQ7DU\/\">reported<\/a> storms in Florida\u00a0on Saturday. Several airlines said Sunday operations are returning to normal but some delays are expected.<\/p>\n<p>Southwest, the nation\u2019s largest domestic carrier, was the hardest hit in flight numbers. The airline ditched 520 Saturday flights, or 14 percent of its total national operation, and\u00a0398\u00a0Sunday flights.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to weather, Southwest said an \u201cintermittent technology issue\u201d early Saturday that hurt the airline.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We are experiencing\u00a0flight disruptions\u00a0across our network\u00a0today due to briefly pausing our service earlier this morning as we worked to resolve an intermittent technology issue, as well as ongoing weather challenges impacting multiple areas within our system. (1\/2)<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Southwest Airlines (@SouthwestAir) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SouthwestAir\/status\/1510370596739297282?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 2, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><em>USA Today<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/eu.usatoday.com\/story\/travel\/airline-news\/2022\/04\/03\/flight-cancellations-southwest-spirit-jetblue-american-airlines\/7262072001\/\">reports<\/a> budget airline Spirit, which has its headquarters and largest hub in Fort Lauderdale, had the highest percentage of weekend problems.<\/p>\n<p>The carrier dropped 27 percent of its Saturday flights and the same figure again for its Sunday flights, according to FlightAware.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-252 Component-p-0-2-243\">According to the AP report, Alaska Airlines seemed to be dealing with a separate issue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-252 Component-p-0-2-243\">The airline said Sunday weekend flight cancellations that\u00a0began Friday\u00a0have affected more than 37,000 customers and further schedule changes were possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-252 Component-p-0-2-243\">It declined to say why but referred in its statement to contract negotiations with its pilots.
