We are not breeders, birthing people, or anything else. We are moms. All of us,\u201d one person <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mommalatte_5\/status\/1510437015589822468\">replied<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of these terms were taught to you in medical school. You know why? Because they\u2019re contrived and bear no relationship with biology,\u201d another <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nymattregan\/status\/1506835371920871426\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a February 2021 press release, the NYC Health website <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/site\/doh\/about\/press\/pr2021\/health-department-appoints-first-chief-medical-officer.page\">said<\/a> Morse joined the department and was the agency\u2019s first Chief Medical Officer:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Dr. Morse is an internal medicine hospitalist, Co-Founder of EqualHealth, and Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. EqualHealth is a non-profit organization that builds critical consciousness and collective action globally, in the pursuit of health equity for all.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Dr. Morse was awarded as a Soros Equality Fellowship working with colleagues to launch EqualHealth\u2019s global Campaign Against Racism. In September 2019 she began a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy fellowship in Washington, DC and worked with the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee, Majority Staff, on health equity priorities.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In June, President Joe Biden\u2019s administration\u2019s 2022 fiscal year budget request <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/06\/10\/biden-admin-replaces-mothers-birthing-people-new-budget-proposal\/\">introduced<\/a> the term \u201cbirthing people\u201d to effectively replace \u201cmothers,\u201d Breitbart News reported at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsage of the phrase \u2018birthing people\u2019 instead of the traditional \u2018mothers\u2019 drew a wave of criticism,\u201d the outlet said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the recent Fox report, a DOH spokesperson called Morse\u2019s post an\u00a0\u201coversight\u201d then added, \u201cwe apologize for inadvertently gendering Black and Puerto Rican birthing people.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A health official in New York City experienced much criticism due to her controversial social media posts about women and motherhood.
