(Isaac Brekken\/AP Images for NFL, File)<\/span><span> (AP Newsroom)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Amazon said more than 80% of the shares are scheduled to vest in five to 10 years, and is expected to represent most of Mr. Jassy\u2019s compensation for the coming years, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Faced with the first CEO succession in the company\u2019s history,&#8221; Amazon said in a filing that its compensation committee &#8220;determined it important to provide for clarity and stability through an award that is designed to establish a long-term owner\u2019s perspective and encourage bold, long-term initiatives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/business-leaders\/amazon-congressional-investigation-warehouse-collapse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>AMAZON SUBJECT OF CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATION OVER WAREHOUSE COLLAPSE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The company said it considered compensation data for CEOs at large tech companies and others, as well as one-time awards for CEO promotions, in structuring Mr. Jassy\u2019s compensation.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jassy\u2019s base salary in 2021 was $175,000, the same as it was in 2020, when he was head of the Amazon Web Services, the company\u2019s cloud-computing business. That amount, essentially unchanged for years, is mostly used to cover security for Mr. Bezos.<\/p>\n<p>News about the company\u2019s executive pay comes as workers at a New York facility voted to establish <a href=\"article\/amazon-workers-in-new-york-vote-to-form-tech-giants-first-u-s-union-11648831151\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the tech giant\u2019s first union in the U.S.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/lifestyle\/amazon-labor-union-vote-april-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>AMAZON WORKERS AT STATEN ISLAND FACILITY VOTE IN FAVOR OF UNION, FIRST IN COMPANY&#8217;S HISTORY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The CEO change at Amazon marked the company\u2019s first major leadership shift in its history.
