Nathan made the ruling Friday after hearing testimony from juror number 50, also known as Scotty David. The ruling came just weeks after Nathan questioned David under oath about statements he had made to the press in the days after the trial concluded.<\/p>\n<p>During that hearing, the juror, who was given immunity from prosecution in order to compel him to speak, told the court that he \u201cskimmed way too fast\u201d through the pre-trial jury questionnaire, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ghislaine-maxwell-alison-j-nathan-jeffrey-epstein-sexual-abuse-1f9fd4c18ad8ece846b52fcce7f4b1ef\">Associated Press<\/a> reported. The juror said that the reason he \u201cflew through\u201d the questionnaire was because he was \u201csuper-distracted\u201d by the happening in the courtroom at the time, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-60962777\">BBC<\/a> added. \u201cThis is one of the biggest mistakes I have made in my life,\u201d the juror reportedly said.<\/p>\n<p><span>Specifically, the juror answered questions from the court about one of his answers on the questionnaire that contradicted his press interviews. Question number 48 asked: \u201c[have] you or a friend or family member ever been the victim of sexual harassment, sexual abuse, or sexual assault?\u201d The juror replied \u201cno\u201d on the form, but then told the press in interviews that he did not remember being asked the question. He said further that <\/span><span>he <em>had<\/em>, in fact, been sexually abused as a child, and that his experiences helped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ghislaine-maxwell-attorneys-seeking-new-trial-after-juror-speaks-about-sexual-abuse\">sway the jury<\/a> toward conviction during deliberation. The juror told the court that if he could \u201cgo back and change everything\u201d and take the time to read through the questions appropriately, \u201cI would in a heartbeat.\u201d <\/span><span>\u201cI didn\u2019t lie in order to get on this jury,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In her ruling, Judge Nathan concluded that the juror\u2019s \u201clack of attention and care in responding accurately to every question on the questionnaire is regrettable, but the court is confident that the failure to disclose was not deliberate,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/04\/01\/nyregion\/ghislaine-maxwell-trial-juror-ruling.html\">The New York Times<\/a> reported. The jury system \u201cdoes not exclude individuals with experiences similar to the issues at trial when those individuals can serve fairly and impartially,\u201d she wrote, and the question at hand was whether he \u201c[had] the ability to decide the case based only on the evidence presented in court, not extraneous information, and without bias.\u201d When questioned under oath at the hearing, the juror <span>answered questions \u201cfrankly and honestly, even when the answers he gave were the cause of personal embarrassment and regret,\u201d she continued, via AP. \u201cHis tone, demeanor and responsiveness gave no indication of false testimony.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court further concludes that Juror 50 harboured no bias toward the defendant and could serve as a fair and impartial juror,\u201d Nathan wrote, via BBC.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i86\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">\u201cJuror 50 does not consider himself a victim and does not let his past define him,\u201d Todd Spodek, the juror\u2019s lawyer, said in a statement, via NYT. \u201cHe listened to the evidence and was fair and impartial.
