Of those rescued,\u00a01,595 were picked up by migrant taxi NGO vessels.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The vast majority of the 6,701 migrants departed from the coast of Libya, with 4,236 heading to Italy from the country, while 1,494 migrants set sail from neighbouring Tunisia, the European Union-funded website InfoMigrants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.infomigrants.net\/en\/post\/39560\/migrants-6700-sea-arrivals-in-italy-in-2022\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Lamorgese also noted that the Russian invasion of Ukraine could have a further impact on migration flows from North Africa as countries like Tunisia are largely dependent on wheat and other commodities from Ukraine as well as from Russia.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Pay for the food of the developing world or face another migrant crisis \u2014 this is the ultimatum the head of the UN\u2019s World Food Program has put to Europe\u2019s leaders. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qibVD8ysrt\">https:\/\/t.co\/qibVD8ysrt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1508654405415059457?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 29, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Earlier this week, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman spoke at the United Nations Security Council and accused Russia of creating a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/russia-accused-of-causing-global-food-crisis-at-un\/\">global food crisis<\/a> as a result of the invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Sherman directly accused Russian President Vladimir Putin saying, \u201cThe responsibility for waging war on Ukraine \u2014 and for the war\u2019s effects on global food security \u2014 falls solely on Russia and on President Putin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David Beasley, the head of the UN\u2019s World Food Programme, has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/03\/26\/un-tsar-warns-europe-of-hell-on-earth-migrant-crisis-amid-global-food-shortage\/\">warned<\/a> of a looming migration crisis as a result of the food shortages caused by the war in Ukraine and called on Europe to provide more food aid to areas facing possible famine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFailure to provide this year a few extra billion dollars means you\u2019re going to have famine, destabilization, and mass migration,\u201d Beasley said and added, \u201cIf you think we\u2019ve got Hell on earth now, you just get ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we neglect northern Africa, northern Africa\u2019s coming to Europe.
