Johnson had 60 percent name recognition, Soldano had 51 percent, Rinke had 47 percent, and Dixon rounded out the list at 37 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Craig celebrated his campaign\u2019s strong position in a statement, saying,\u00a0\u201cOur message of solving problems and leading from the front resonates with Michiganders as I travel across the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe momentum is behind us, and I hear it all the time \u2013 Michiganders want real leadership in Lansing to rebuild our economy and bring good-paying jobs back to Michigan,\u201d Craig added.<\/p>\n<p>The results of the McLaughlin poll coincide with a Trafalgar poll that was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrafalgargroup.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/MI-Gov-GOP-0331-Poll-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released<\/a> Friday that found Craig again with a wide lead over his closest opponent, this time Johnson, with Craig receiving 34 percent compared to Johnson\u2019s 16 percent. Soldano came in third at 15 percent, followed by Kelly at seven percent and Dixon at three percent.<\/p>\n<p>The primary takes place August 2, and the winner will face incumbent Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who has spent the last two years fending off Republican criticisms of her notoriously stringent coronavirus lockdowns and mandates in 2020 and 2021 that were coupled with repeated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/30\/michigan-democrat-gretchen-whitmers-top-5-coronavirus-rules-for-thee-not-for-me-moments-of-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">instances<\/a> of Whitmer defying her own policies and recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>The election analysis outlet Cook Political Report rates the general election race a \u201ctoss-up,\u201d a rating it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/03\/report-wisconsin-michigan-among-eight-governor-races-shifting-toward-republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moved<\/a> from \u201clean democrat\u201d in December. Cook noted at the time that Craig \u201clooks like an early favorite.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While former President Donald Trump has not weighed in on the Republican primary race at this stage, the polling results come one day ahead of a rally Trump is planning to hold Saturday night in Washington Township, Michigan, which will\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realLizUSA\/status\/1509593349963010056?s=20&#038;t=3jl62agn3rjDYDMnkYX-hA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">feature<\/a>\u00a0several candidates from the state that he has already endorsed.<\/p>\n<p><em>Write to Ashley Oliver at <a href=\"mailto:aoliver@breitbart.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aoliver@breitbart.com<\/a>.
