The evidence is clear that these types of bills stigmatize and worsen the well-being and mental health of transgender kids, and they put loving and supportive families across the country at risk of discrimination and harassment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden touted the U.S. Department of Justice\u2019s (DOJ) involvement in four different lawsuits involving transgender children. First, the White House noted its involvement in\u00a0<em>Brandt v. Rutledge<\/em>, a case challenging an Arkansas law that would prevent health care providers from giving children under 18 \u201cgender-affirming health care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Second, the White House highlighted the DOJ\u2019s participation in\u00a0<em>B.P.J. v. West Virginia State Board of Education<\/em>, a lawsuit seeking to overturn West Virginia\u2019s ban on transgender athletes participating in women\u2019s sports. \u201cThe United States has a significant interest in ensuring that all students, including students who are transgender, can participate in an educational environment free of unlawful discrimination,\u201d the DOJ\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/crt\/case-document\/file\/1405541\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0in its statement of interest.<\/p>\n<p>Third, the White House applauded the DOJ\u2019s involvement in\u00a0<em>Corbitt v. Taylor<\/em>, where the DOJ filed an amicus curiae brief. This lawsuit challenged an Alabama law that allows transgender citizens to change their gender marker on a driver\u2019s license only if they have had gender-transitioning surgery. The DOJ\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/crt\/case-document\/file\/1423426\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a>\u00a0that Alabama law violated the 14th Amendment\u2019s Equal Protection Clause because it \u201csingles out transgender persons for differential treatment and causes them affirmative harm.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Finally, the White House noted the DOJ\u2019s amicus brief filed in\u00a0<em>Adams v. School Board of St. John\u2019s County<\/em>, which involved a Florida school preventing a transgender child from using the boys\u2019 restroom. The DOJ argued that the school\u2019s policy violated Title IX and the Equal Protection Clause. The DOJ\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/crt\/case-document\/file\/1458461\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ignored<\/a>\u00a0potential privacy issues stemming from a girl using the boys\u2019 restroom because \u201cif the School Board were to find any student\u2014transgender or cisgender\u2014 behaving inappropriately in a restroom, the school can and should address such behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to highlighting the transgender activism Biden\u2019s DOJ is doing in the judiciary, Biden also\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/03\/31\/fact-sheet-bid%5B%E2%80%A6%5Dadvances-equality-and-visibility-for-transgender-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0a slew of actions \u201cto support the mental health of transgender children,\u201d among other things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransgender people are some of the bravest people in our nation. But nobody should have to be brave just to be themselves,\u201d the White House\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/03\/31\/fact-sheet-bid%5B%E2%80%A6%5Dadvances-equality-and-visibility-for-transgender-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0in its announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the moves include the State Department and Department of Homeland Security changing the travel process to accommodate transgender and nonbinary individuals. Starting in April, U.S. citizens will be allowed to make \u201cx\u201d on their passport applications, as opposed to \u201cmale\u201d or \u201cfemale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration will also allow individuals to receive social security to update their gender information with the Social Security Administration without providing a doctor\u2019s note as proof of identity.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the White House will use taxpayer dollars to study the impact gender-affirming health care has on children\u2019s mental health.<\/p>\n<p>The cases are\u00a0<em>Brandt v.
