TMZ reported that Solo was arrested in a Walmart parking lot in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and two children were present in the vehicle at the time of her arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nfl-entertainment-sports-soccer-winston-salem-c209a4bd711b7570e82acd69f34eb83b\"><span>Associated Press<\/span><\/a><span>, <\/span><span>\u201c<\/span><span>a passerby noticed Solo passed out behind the steering wheel for more than an hour with the vehicle\u2019s engine running and the two children in the backseat. A responding officer could smell alcohol, and the warrant said that Solo refused a field sobriety test and her blood was drawn instead.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Solo released a statement from her counsel, Rich Nichols, on Friday, saying that the story is \u201cm<\/span><span>ore sympathetic than the initial charges suggest.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cOn the advice of counsel, Hope can\u2019t speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges,\u201d Nichols said in a statement on Twitter.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"und\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/O2Zs9JsOdG\">pic.twitter.com\/O2Zs9JsOdG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hope Solo (@hopesolo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hopesolo\/status\/1509949280382963713?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 1, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Solo is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, playing for the USWNT from 2000-2016. Solo was also the goalie for the 2015 World Cup team. <\/span><span>According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/04\/01\/us\/hope-solo-arrest.html\"><span>The New York Times<\/span><\/a><span>, her contract with the USWNT was terminated in 2016 for \u201c<\/span><span>conduct that is counter to the organization\u2019s principles.\u201d The termination came after Solo called the Swedish soccer team \u201ccowards\u201d for their defensive approach to the game. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This isn\u2019t her first run-in with the law, as Solo was charged with two counts of misdemeanor assault in 2014 before having the case dismissed in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>During her playing career, Solo was considered one of the best goalies in the world, earning the praise of her teammates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve played with Hope for a very long time,\u201d USWNT teammate Alex Morgan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalsoccerhof.com\/news\/2022\/01\/hope-solo-elected-to-national-soccer-hall-of-fame.html\">said<\/a> during the 2015 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup. \u201cShe is one of the best goalkeepers in the world if not the best goalkeeper in the world.
