Although it was cracked from top to bottom, the glass stayed intact, and the pilots were able to safely land the aircraft in Denver. No passengers or crew were harmed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThey came on the loudspeaker saying that the windshield had shattered, and we were diverting to Denver in about 10 minutes. I was sure I had misheard them but I hadn\u2019t,\u201d passenger Rachel Wright <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kutv.com\/news\/local\/plane-departing-from-salt-lake-shatters-windshield-mid-flight\"><span>told<\/span><\/a><span> KUTV. She claimed that the crew announced the diverted landing an hour and a half after takeoff. \u201cThey kept coming on saying for everyone to stay calm, to be calm, and we were calm so being told to stay calm while we were calm made us feel a little panicky,\u201d Wright explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Another passenger took a photo of the shattered glass after landing and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KirkKnowlton\/status\/1509618535005310981?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1509618535005310981%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fkutv.com%2Fnews%2Flocal%2Fplane-departing-from-salt-lake-shatters-windshield-mid-flight\"><span>posted<\/span><\/a><span> it to Twitter. \u201c<\/span><span>We were on our way to the ACC [American College of Cardiology] meeting when it was announced that we we (sic) would need to make an unplanned landing in Denver because the windscreen cracked,\u201d Kirk Knowlton tweeted. \u201cApparently it was spontaneous. Fortunately, we landed safely and are about to get back in air. We are grateful for safe flights.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We were on our way to the ACC meeting when it was announced that we we would need to make an unplanned landing in Denver because the windscreen cracked. We are grateful for safe flights <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lK6kq5UiY2\">pic.twitter.com\/lK6kq5UiY2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kirk Knowlton, MD (@KirkKnowlton) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KirkKnowlton\/status\/1509618535005310981?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 31, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>A Delta spokesperson confirmed the aircraft\u2019s windshield cracked but was unable to confirm what caused it to shatter mid-air, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/utah-salt-lake-city-a7513b8a8c4bcb29318a25f7d855b366\"><span>according<\/span><\/a><span> to the Associated Press. Contact with birds is doubtful as most birds don\u2019t fly above 10,000 feet. KUTV reported that \u201c<\/span><span>Several experienced commercial airline pilots\u201d told them \u201cwindshields can be two inches thick and have several layered panes of glass.\u201d As of now, it\u2019s unknown if the cockpit lost pressure resulting from the shattered windshield.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Delta released the following statement after the incident: <\/span><span>\u201c<\/span><span>Delta flight 760 from Salt Lake City to Washington D.C. experienced a maintenance issue mid-flight<\/span><span>. <\/span><span>Out of an abundance of caution, the flight crew diverted into Denver and the plane landed routinely.
