Despite this, advertisers were still charged for ads based on the estimates made by the audience-measuring tool, overcharging them.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Facebook\u2019s lawyers have argued that the company has since made \u201cupdates\u201d to improve the estimates made by the tool. They also objected to the class-action status request saying that ad buyers did not show that all class members uniformly relied on the metrics to increase their spending.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge James Donato said:\u00a0\u201cIt may be that class members differ in advertising budgets and scope of purchases, as Meta suggests, but Meta has not shown that these differences,\u201d make the case unsuited to qualify as a class action.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2019\/10\/08\/facebook-to-pay-40-million-over-claims-it-inflated-video-view-counts-to-advertisers\/\">Facebook agreed to a settlement of $40 million<\/a> over a class-action lawsuit brought by advertisers who alleged that they overpaid for video ads based on Facebook\u2019s overstated vide-viewing metrics.
