Brian Kemp (R) in December, and Kemp challenger former Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) has latched onto the deal, which he describes as \u201ccrooked,\u201d as a means to continuously criticize Kemp as Perdue campaigns to unseat him.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cA scheme to give away hundreds of millions of tax dollars to a Soros-owned company. It\u2019s not Stacey Abrams. It\u2019s RINO Brian Kemp,\u201d a recent Perdue ad says. \u201cKemp\u2019s crooked deal cost Georgians but made Soros even richer.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Kemp is giving away hundreds of millions of taxpayers\u2019 dollars to a George Soros company that makes electric cars. Kemp has refused to disclose the full details of this back room deal. It\u2019s no doubt good for Soros. The question is\u2014why is the Governor hiding it from Georgians? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fuEBSqkxfF\">pic.twitter.com\/fuEBSqkxfF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Team Perdue (@TeamPerdue) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TeamPerdue\/status\/1508877276544393218?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 29, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Perdue began ramping up the campaign attacks related to Rivian on March 1, when he held a press conference in Rutledge at the site of the proposed plant to protest its construction.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Perdue, a wealthy businessman who previously served as CEO of Reebok and Dollar General, charged at the event that he had created \u201cthousands of valuable American jobs\u201d through his past work while Kemp had given away \u201ctax dollars to George Soros.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just a business guy, not a career politician. I\u2019ve spent my life creating thousands of valuable American jobs. This is not the way you do it,\u201d Perdue said. \u201cWe can grow the economy without selling out and giving our tax dollars to George Soros. We can create jobs without buying them. We can invest in rural Georgia without kicking our communities to the curb.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20460008\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/03\/216ec50b-bde1-49ce-59cb-42c6f12994bf.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rutledge, Georgia, March 1, 2022. (Perdue campaign)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Democrat megadonor George Soros\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/billionaire-soros-buys-stake-ev-startup-rivian-2022-02-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">purchased<\/a>\u00a0close to 20 million shares of Rivian, which amounted to about $2 billion, in the final quarter of 2021, according to a Reuters report.<\/p>\n<p>While Soros\u2019s shares equated to about a two percent stake in Rivian, Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloombergquint.com\/business\/georgia-governor-kemp-s-campaign-defends-rivian-plant-deal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">notes<\/a> other investor giants have \u201csignificantly\u201d higher stakes in the publicly traded company, including Amazon, T. Rowe Price, BlackRock, and Ford.<\/p>\n<p>A top competitor of Rivian is Tesla, an electric automaker giant\u00a0<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2022\/02\/25\/elon-musk-cant-get-enough-of-china-tesla-plans-to-double-production-in-communist-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">aiming<\/a>\u00a0to expand its business in China. Tesla\u2019s largest shareholder is\u00a0chief executive\u00a0Elon Musk, who owns about a 17 percent stake in the company. And while Rivian is focused on growing its company in Georgia, Tesla is\u00a0planning\u00a0to build a highly active factory in Shanghai, China, which is expected to more than double Tesla\u2019s production in the communist-run country.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Georgia had for months competed with other U.S. states,\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/triangle\/news\/2021\/09\/02\/rivian-expansion-north-carolina-texas-incentives.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">including<\/a>\u00a0North Carolina and Texas, to secure the deal with Rivian, but according to a report this month from local outlet 11Alive, incentives the Kemp administration\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.11alive.com\/article\/money\/business\/rivian-motors-electric-truck-plant-georgia-questions\/85-f45d645b-4fa4-451d-8b5a-380a9fc39fa6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">offered<\/a>\u00a0to Rivian to draw it to Georgia have not yet fully been disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Perdue\u2019s criticism about Soros being a shareholder of Rivian, Perdue has also highlighted the still partially undisclosed incentives as an indication that a \u201csecret backroom deal\u201d took place.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) lobbed similar complaints at Amazon about incentives before Amazon canceled plans to build its coveted second headquarters in Queens, New York. The move deprived the state of what would have been, according to Insider, an\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/amazon-hq2-canceled-plans-new-york-city-headquarters-2019-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">estimated<\/a>\u00a025,000 new full-time jobs, a $2.5 billion investment in Queens\u2019 Long Island City neighborhood, and millions in projected city and state tax revenue. Amazon announced its decision to pull out of the Queens deal in February 2019, saying, \u201cA\u00a0number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some opposition has also been expressed regarding the Rivian plant\u2019s inevitable local impact. Georgia Tenth Congressional District candidate Mike Collins has been conveying his disapproval on the campaign trail about how the facility, which\u00a0will\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2022\/01\/12\/rivians-georgia-plant-plans-reveal-nearly-20-million-sq-ft-of-buildings-complete-with-a-test-track-and-adventure-trail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">span<\/a>\u00a0some 2,000 acres,\u00a0will upend life in the area.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I stand with the voters of Morgan &#038; Walton County to OPPOSE the disastrous Rivian plant being planned. <\/p>\n<p>There is a movement going on to take back our country\u2014and it starts in communities just like this. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BJwGo1AZhG\">pic.twitter.com\/BJwGo1AZhG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Michael Collins (@MikeCollinsGA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MikeCollinsGA\/status\/1492652749938475016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>While Collins indicated in a social media post in February that voters in the affected counties of Morgan and Walton oppose Rivian coming to Georgia, a Georgia Chamber of Commerce survey of four area counties, Morgan, Walton, Newton, and Jasper, found that, by contrast, respondents who were aware of the plant proposal\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gachamber.com\/georgia-chamber-commissioned-poll-shows-strong-support-for-rivian-facility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">supported<\/a>\u00a0it two to one (49 percent support and 24 percent oppose).<\/p>\n<p>Kemp, for his part, celebrated the project as the \u201csingle-largest economic development project in Georgia history\u201d when he\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/gov.georgia.gov\/press-releases\/2021-12-16\/gov-kemp-welcomes-rivian-single-largest-economic-development-project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a>\u00a0it in December. He noted the plant, which would be located at the \u201cEast Atlanta Megasite\u201d \u2014 a site that had been ripe for new development and pitched to other companies in the past \u2014 would bring 7,500 jobs to Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>The investment, Kemp said, \u201crepresents the future of automotive manufacturing and establishes the leading role the Peach State will play in this booming industry for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Kemp campaign spokesman Cody Hall said in a statement provided to Breitbart News that Perdue\u2019s attacks on Kemp relating to Rivian were \u201coutright lies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid Perdue\u2019s clown car campaign has resorted to outright lies as they attack 7,500 good-paying, American manufacturing jobs coming to the Peach State,\u201d Hall said. \u201cIt should come as no surprise, as they\u2019re down in the polls, can\u2019t raise money, and are desperate to avoid addressing Perdue\u2019s decades-long career of outsourcing American jobs to China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perdue has the backing of former President Donald Trump as he aims to defeat Kemp but has so far been roughly ten points behind Kemp in polls. While Perdue had initially made election integrity \u2014 Trump\u2019s premier issue \u2014 the centerpiece of his campaign, Perdue\u2019s\u00a0<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/16\/georgia-polls-brian-kemp-takes-double-digit-lead-over-david-perdue-in-governors-primary-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lagging<\/a>\u00a0poll numbers have appeared to prompt the former senator to expand his messaging to include economic issues like the Rivian deal, as well as issues of crime like the proposal to allow the wealthy suburb of Buckhead to deannex from Atlanta so that it could create its own police force.<\/p>\n<p>The gubernatorial primary takes place May 24, and early voting will begin in just over a month.<\/p>\n<p><em>Write to Ashley Oliver at <a href=\"mailto:aoliver@breitbart.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aoliver@breitbart.com<\/a>.
