The Razzies \u2013 short for the Golden Raspberry Awards \u2013 celebrate the best of the worst in Hollywood. They are the self-proclaimed \u201cugly cousin to the Oscars\u201d that honor \u201cthe worst of cinematic under-achievements\u201d of the year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Actor Bruce Willis was awarded a Razzie on Saturday but now in the wake of his family announcing the actor\u2019s aphasia diagnosis, the organization will be rescinding his award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIf someone\u2019s medical condition is a factor in their decision making and\/or their performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to give them a Razzie,\u201d co-founders John J.B. Wilson and Mo Murphy said in a statement (via <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2022\/03\/razzies-rescind-bruce-willis-1234713172\/\"><span>IndieWire<\/span><\/a><span>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This year\u2019s Razzies categories included a special \u201cworst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie\u201d category with all eight movies he made on the docket. Willis won for \u201cCosmic Sin\u201d which was described as \u201cmore Bruce Willis than any starving viewer could stomach.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The satirical Razzies are already slightly controversial, and Willis is no stranger to winning them. According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/entertainment\/2022\/02\/bruce-willis-gets-his-own-razzies-category-worst-performance-by-bruce-willis.html\"><span>NJ.com<\/span><\/a><span>, the actor has two Razzies already plus 20 nominations from his decades-long career. This is the first time the \u201cDie Hard\u201d star was awarded his own category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The 67-year-old actor\u2019s family announced he would be retiring from acting in 2022 due to medical challenges. Rumer Willis, the eldest daughter of Demi Moore and Willis, shared her father\u2019s diagnosis in an Instagram <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Cbu-CyELWio\/\"><span>post<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c\u2026 our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,\u201d she wrote in part. \u201cAs a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Willis isn\u2019t the only one getting his Razzie award rescinded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The organization also announced that it was taking back its nomination of Shelley Duvall for her performance in \u201cThe Shining,\u201d who received a nomination 42 years ago, NBC News <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/pop-culture\/pop-culture-news\/razzies-rescind-bruce-willis-worst-performance-award-diagnosis-rcna22569\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe have since discovered that Duvall\u2019s performance was impacted by Stanley Kubrick\u2019s treatment of her throughout the production,\u201d the award co-founders shared in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This was done in response to an interview Duvall did with The Hollywood Reporter last year detailing her \u201ctraumatic\u201d experience shooting \u201cThe Shining\u201d with Kubrick.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cKnowing the backstory and the way that Stanley Kubrick kind of pulverized her, I would take that back,\u201d Murphy said. \u201cWe\u2019re willing to say, \u2018Yeah, maybe that shouldn\u2019t have been nominated.\u2019 Everybody makes mistakes. That\u2019s being human.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Social media followers used the announcement as an opportunity to mock the Razzies for existing in the first place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe Razzies are truly sorry for #BruceWillis diagnosed condition. Perhaps this explains why he wanted to go out with a bang in 2021. Our best wishes to Bruce and family,\u201d the official Razzie Awards account <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RazzieAwards\/status\/1509219110579712002\"><span>shared<\/span><\/a><span> on Twitter.
