In the unedited version of the photo, the building is not lit with any colors.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Kenya was one of 141 countries that voted to condemn Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine during a Feb. 25 U.N. Security Council session, Quartz <a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/africa\/2138584\/how-african-countries-voted-on-russias-invasion-of-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. A Feb. 27 Facebook post claims the country took its support for the invaded country a step further and lit one of its buildings in the color of the Ukrainian flag.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The post includes a photo of a tower in an urban area lit with alternating blue and yellow lights. \u201cKICC in Nairobi #Kenya last night lit with #ukraine flag in solidarity,\u201d reads the image\u2019s caption. The \u201cKICC\u201d refers to the <a href=\"https:\/\/kicc.co.ke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenyatta International Convention Center<\/a> in Nairobi, Kenya. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/30\/fact-check-boy-travels-slovakia-alone-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show A Young Ukrainian Boy Crossing The Border Into Slovakia By Himself?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The image has been digitally altered. The same image, only without the yellow and blue lights, has been shared online since at least 2016. It can be found in a 2016 article published on the website of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meetingmediagroup.com\/article\/the-meetings-virus-has-reached-kenya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Association Magazine<\/a>, as well as on the \u201cNairobi Summit\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nairobisummiticpd.org\/content\/conference-venue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>, which credits the image as \u201cCourtesy of KICC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No such photo of the building being lit up in blue and yellow can be found on KICC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=Ukraine%20(from%3AKICC_kenya)&#038;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/kicc_kenya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pages<\/a>\u00a0or on the Kenyan government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.president.go.ke\/briefing-room\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>. Likewise, there are no credible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Ukraine+%22Kenyatta+International+Convention+Centre%22&#038;oq=Ukraine+%22Kenyatta+International+Convention+Centre%22&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57j33i22i29i30l5.1807j0j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news reports<\/a> of the building being illuminated in support of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat image did not originate from us,\u201d a KICC spokesperson told the website <a href=\"https:\/\/pesacheck.org\/altered-this-image-showing-ukrainian-flag-on-the-kicc-building-is-not-authentic-b39435c68125\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PesaCheck<\/a>. \u201cAnything that is not on our official website or social media handle is not from us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time a photo of a notable building has been digitally altered to feature the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
