They are unrelated to the current conflict in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Facebook post includes two images, both showing a blue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/technology\/Sukhoi-Su-27\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sukhoi Su-27 fighter jet<\/a> with what appears to be a road sign crumpled around the base of the aircraft. \u201cUkrainian aircraft returning from mission,\u201d the post\u2019s caption claims. \u201cThey have to fly very low to avoid Russian radar and missiles. A road sign got in the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the photos of the jet are authentic, they predate the recent Russian invasion. An internet search revealed the incident was the subject of an August 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/ukrainian-fighter-jet-hits-road-sign-while-landing-on-highway-2020-8?IR=T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Business Insider<\/a> piece that explained the Ukrainian jet had collided with the road sign during a training exercise on a Ukrainian highway. The jet pictured was practicing \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.dtic.mil\/sti\/pdfs\/AD1012781.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dispersed landing<\/a>\u201d when it hit the road sign, according to the outlet. The incident was also the subject of an August 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/defence-blog.com\/ukrainian-air-force-exercise-almost-ends-in-disaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">post<\/a> on Defense Blog, a military news outlet. Neither source says anything about the pilot attempting to \u201cavoid Russian radar and missiles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lrwqO2g0psk&#038;t=47s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Video<\/a> of the jet striking the sign while landing was shared to YouTube by Ukrainian news outlet TCH in August 2020 with a Ukrainian-language title that translates to, \u201cA Ukrainian fighter demolished a road sign on the Kyiv-Chop international highway.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/02\/24\/fact-check-russian-jet-shot-down-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: No, This Image Does Not Show A Russian Fighter Jet That Was Shot Down In Ukraine)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian air force continues to battle the larger Russian air force over Ukraine, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/03\/22\/world\/europe\/ukraine-air-force-russia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>.
