The 0.5 seismicity limit is unjustifiable,\u201d Mackinlay <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cmackinlay\/status\/1509512807011737606\">added<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" \u201cdisturbance\u201d of a 2.9 magnitude tremor to justify the decision to shut down the Preston New Road site earlier in the year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>However, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nstauthority.co.uk\/media\/6127\/final-reports-wp2-2.pdf\">report<\/a> published by the Oil and Gas Authority found that concerns over the tremor may have been overblown, saying that the 50 buildings which were affected experienced either\u00a0\u201cno structural damage\u201d or \u201cslight structural damage\u201dsuch as plaster damage or hairline cracks in walls.<\/p>\n<p>Other tremors detected at the site, hitting 1.1 and 1.5 on the Richter scale, were said to be \u201cas almost imperceptible and well below the level of vibration that people experience going about everyday activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>One potential reason for the panic surrounding the 2.9 tremor, the OGA said, was the way in which government collects seismic data, which relies heavily on self-reporting from the public and therefore can be easily skewed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is noted, however, that these \u2018did-you-feel-it?\u2019 reports are self-submitted online,\u201d and therefore not easily verified, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the findings and the invasion of Ukraine, the Net Zero Scrutiny group said last month that the government should resume fracking on a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/28\/green-fail-fracking-must-resume-on-a-war-effort-level-urge-uk-lawmakers\/\">war effort level<\/a>\u201c.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Earlier this month, the CEO of Cuadrilla \u2014 the nation\u2019s only fracking firm \u2014 Francis Egan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-lancashire-60741400\">said<\/a> that fracking will be key for any plans of energy security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we are serious about energy security, as a very basic first step we must not concrete-up these wells.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen we need urgently to lift the shale gas moratorium and use these and additional wells to produce domestic shale
