Ronny Jackson (R) is introducing legislation Friday, April 1, 2022, to \u201d\u00a0ban any state or unit of local government from imposing any insurance requirement, or any tax, user fee\u201d on gun owners.<\/p>\n<p>The immediate impact of Jackson\u2019s bill would be to upend San Jose, California\u2019s recently passed gun owners\u2019 fee and liability insurance requirement, both of which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/26\/gun-rights-group-files-suit-against-san-joses-gun-owner-insurance-requirement\/\">were approved<\/a>\u00a0by the San Jose city council on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>On February 6, 2022, Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/06\/san-jose-mayor-talks-about-seizing-guns-from-owners-who-dont-pay-city-fee\/\">reported<\/a>\u00a0San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo (D) talked to Slate about seizing firearms from people who refuse to pay the city\u2019s new $25 gun owners\u2019 fee or comply with the city\u2019s new liability insurance requirement for gun owners.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">***Second Amendment Alert*** <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/52VsF2neU7\">https:\/\/t.co\/52VsF2neU7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1411706705633742848?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 4, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Liccardo noted the ordinance requiring the fee is \u201ccivil\u201d rather than criminal in nature. However, he made clear that failure to pay the fee can result of seizure of a firearm.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Slate <a href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/news-and-politics\/2022\/02\/san-jose-gun-law-mayor-sam-liccardo-interview.html\">quoted<\/a> him saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>For example, there\u2019s a bar brawl and they\u2019re patting down everybody and someone\u2019s got a gun. \u201cHave you paid your fee? You have insurance?\u201d \u201cNo.\u201d OK, well, there\u2019s an opportunity for us to remove the gun. And then when the gun owner comes back and demonstrates that they comply with the law and they\u2019re a lawful gun owner, they get their gun back. But in the meantime, you\u2019ve taken a gun out of a bar brawl. And that\u2019s not a bad thing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Friday, April 1, Rep. Ronny Jackson will introduce the No User Fee for Gun Owners Act to prevent \u201cany state or unit of local government\u201d from implementing fees and taxes on gun owners. A central focus of the bill is stopping the San Jose fee and insurance requirement before they take effect.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson talked exclusively to Breitbart about his bill, saying: \u201cAs an adamant defender of the Second Amendment, I will ALWAYS fight against any attempt to erode our Second Amendment right to bear arms.\u00a0The law passed in San Jose is just another example of the Far-Left\u2019s gun control agenda that has nothing to do with gun safety and everything to do with control. It\u2019s a slippery slope- if we do not stop the radical Left from enforcing these kinds of policies at a local level, they will soon become implemented at a federal level. This legislation is an important step to ensure this does not happen. It is essential that we fight to maintain our fundamental American freedoms, which includes every American\u2019s right to own a firearm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He called on his House colleagues to rally around his legislation, adding, \u201cI urge my colleagues to join in support of the No User Fees for Gun Owners Act. We must ensure these liberal attacks on gun rights do not become law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jackson is a member of the Second Amendment Caucus.
