There is no way to talk about climate change without talking about transportation,\u201d Inslee <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/washington-state-plans-ban-non-electric-vehicles-2030-rcna21683\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> at the bill signing. \u201cThis package will move us away from the transportation system our grandparents imagined and towards the transportation system our grandchildren dream of.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The legislation \u2014 dubbed \u201cClean Cars 2030\u201d \u2014 was enacted as part of a $17 billion climate agenda called \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/liias\/2022\/03\/10\/legislature-approves-historic-move-ahead-washington-transportation-package\/\"><span>Move Ahead Washington<\/span><\/a><span>.\u201d Other facets of the package include $5.4 billion for \u201ccarbon reduction and multimodal expansion,\u201d $2.4 billion for \u201cfish passage barrier removals,\u201d $836 million for \u201cfour new hybrid-electric ferries,\u201d and $150 million for \u201cultra-high-speed rail.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe\u2019re investing in projects from rural to urban areas across our state, letting kids ride free on our buses, ferries and trains, and so much more \u2014 and all without punting the cost to working families,\u201d State Sen. Marko Liias (D) explained. \u201cI\u2019m eager for residents across the state to have more efficient and safer commutes \u2014 no matter how they\u2019re traveling.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The electric vehicle legislation was signed into law as gas prices have recently reached historic levels. According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\"><span>AAA<\/span><\/a><span>, the average national price of regular gasoline has reached $4.225 per gallon, while the price of diesel has reached $5.117 as of this reporting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Indeed, other governors are passing new legislation in response to the soaring costs. Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA), for instance, wants to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/newsom-pushes-400-gas-price-relief-payments-as-california-fuel-prices-reach-record-levels\"><span>send<\/span><\/a><span> $400 to California residents for each registered vehicle, capped at two vehicles. The governor tied the rise in gas prices to Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s invasion of Ukraine \u2014 despite price increases that have occurred since President Joe Biden entered office in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe\u2019re taking immediate action to get money directly into the pockets of Californians who are facing higher gas prices as a direct result of Putin\u2019s invasion of Ukraine,\u201d Newsom said in a statement. \u201cBut this package is also focused on protecting people from volatile gas prices, and advancing clean transportation \u2013 providing three months of free public transportation, fast-tracking electric vehicle incentives and charging stations, and new funding for local biking and walking projects.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Newsom also rejected Republicans\u2019 bid to pause California\u2019s hefty gas tax because the move would help \u201cpetro-dictators and oil companies.\u201d As a letter from the conservative lawmakers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gavin-newsom-opposes-republican-bid-to-pause-sky-high-gas-tax-because-it-would-help-petro-dictators-and-oil-companies\"><span>explained<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cwhile market forces are responsible for today\u2019s extreme prices, California\u2019s high taxes represent an added burden, and working Californians simply cannot afford gas prices approaching $6 per gallon.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As of March 31, the average price of gas in California was $5.896 per gallon, according to AAA.<\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
