One of America\u2019s best and brightest future Ivy League graduates screeched at the conservative panelist: \u201cI will literally fight you, bitch!\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_11997977\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2019\/11\/Getty-Images_Win-McNamee1.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yale (Getty Images\/Win McNamee)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Dean\u00a0Gerken said that while she found the student outburst \u201cunacceptable,\u201d and a violation of \u201cthe norms of this Law School,\u201d it was nonetheless not a violation of the school\u2019s free speech policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder the University\u2019s free expression policy, student groups have every right to invite speakers to campus, and others have every right to voice opposition,\u201d Gerken said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1m2Aw11GL0_0ih_AUQnW8xzRkZKsVr_Gb\/view\">campus-wide email<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOur commitment to free speech is clear and unwavering,\u201d the dean added. \u201cBecause unfettered debate is essential to our mission, we allow people to speak even when their speech is flatly inconsistent with our core values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gerken went on to say that \u201chad the protesters shut down the event, our course of action would have been straightforward \u2014 the offending students without question would have been subject to discipline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The dean also\u00a0acknowledged that \u201cseveral students engaged in rude and insulting behavior as the event began,\u201d and that \u201ca number made excessive noise in our hallways that interfered with several events taking place,\u201d adding that \u201csome refused to listen to our staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYLS is a professional school, and this is not how lawyers interact,\u201d Gerken affirmed. \u201cWe are\u00a0also a community that respects our faculty and staff who have devoted their lives to helping students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProfessor Kate Stith, Dean Mike Thompson, and other members of the staff should not have been treated as they were,\u201d the dean continued. \u201cI expect far more from our students, and I want to state unequivocally that this cannot happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe deeper issues embedded in this event are not unique to Yale Law School \u2014 they plague our democracy and institutions across the country,\u201d\u00a0Gerken added.<\/p>\n<p>Yale Law School hosted the bipartisan panel on March 10 in hopes to show students\u00a0that a liberal atheist and a conservative Christian can find common ground on free speech issues. The panel featured\u00a0Kristen Waggoner from Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), and Monica Miller with the progressive American Humanist Association.<\/p>\n<p>But nearly 120 law students showed up to protest the event, shouting down speakers, and pounding on the walls, with at least one student issuing a threat.
