Instead, Bauer\u2019s suit alleges, Knight and The Athletic helped\u00a0\u201c[spread] the false narrative\u201d that Bauer had fractured her skull.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The woman accused Bauer of choking and punching her during sex.<\/p>\n<p>The Athletic issued the following update on their article about Bauer, stating\u00a0\u201cthe woman was initially diagnosed with signs of a basilar skull fracture, a subsequent CT scan found no acute fracture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bauer\u2019s suit contends that The Athletic\u2019s\u00a0\u201cfalse reporting led to a proliferation of articles and tweets referencing a nonexistent skull fracture.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.gettyimages.com\/photos\/trevor-bauer-of-the-los-angeles-dodgers-looks-on-after-giving-up-a-picture-id1323275755?k=20&#038;m=1323275755&#038;s=612x612&#038;w=0&#038;h=oIsbiF0KtBwwAlk-LJuhfHmmLXnYTBYibgzeYwmTp9E=\" alt=\"Trevor Bauer of the Los Angeles Dodgers looks on after giving up a hit to Joey Gallo of the Texas Rangers during the fifth inning at Dodger Stadium...\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer (Katelyn Mulcahy\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Despite having to make a significant update to their story, a spokesperson for The Athletic told the Hill that they feel \u201cconfident\u201d in their reporting and plan to contest Bauer\u2019s suit.<\/p>\n<p>As Yahoo! Sports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/dodgers-pitcher-trevor-bauer-sues-184633295.html?msclkid=b8bcf6ceb11d11ecace7dad6e9701b94\">reports<\/a>, \u201cThe Los Angeles County District Attorney\u2019s Office\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/593465-dodgers-pitcher-wont-face-charges-after-sexual-assault-claim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ylk=\"slk:announced in February\" data-rapid_p=\"19\" data-v9y=\"1\">announced in February<\/a>\u00a0that they would not press charges against Bauer, stating that they were \u2018unable to prove the relevant charges beyond a reasonable doubt.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>After the court\u2019s decision, Bauer posted a video on YouTube in which he maintained his innocence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never assaulted her in any way, at any time,\u201d Bauer asserted. \u201cAnd, while we did have consensual rough sex, the disturbing acts and conduct she described simply did not occur.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bauer\u2019s defamation suit against The Athletic was filed in\u00a0n the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
