Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-31-at-1.04.46-PM.png?w=1200&#038;h=800&#038;ixlib=react-9.3.0\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Republican Pennsylvania senatorial candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz\u2019s campaign is insisting that he has always been pro-life, but comments he has made in the past indicate that Oz did not want to impede a woman\u2019s ability to abort her unborn baby.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not socially conservative,\u201d Oz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreviewofmedicine.com\/issue\/interview\/2008\/5_interview_06.html\">said in a 2008 interview<\/a> where he described himself as a \u201cTeddy Roosevelt Republican.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained that while pregnancy and childbirth should be made easier for women, he also did not want to impede a woman\u2019s ability to get an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t believe that we should be intruding into the private lives of homosexuals and we should not be creating obstacles during the difficult time that women have when trying to terminate a pregnancy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Oz continued that he believes \u201cwe should make it as easy as possible for women to carry a child to term and give it up for adoption,\u201d but noted that \u201ctoday\u2019s climate makes it difficult for women to do what\u2019s best for them and their fetus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Oz\u2019s communications director Brittany Yanick insisted to The Daily Wire that he \u201chas not changed his mind\u201d on abortion saying, \u201che\u2019s pro life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. <span class=\"il\">Oz<\/span> is strongly pro-life and adamantly opposed to abortion,\u201d she said, in a statement that the Oz campaign previously provided to The Daily Wire in early March. \u201c<span>He spent\u00a0his entire career saving lives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAs a heart surgeon, he has literally held a baby\u2019s tiny beating heart in his hand, and in that very moment, it is impossible to deny how precious every life is,\u201d she added. \u201cHe\u2019s stated this before and he\u2019s been vocal about this for many years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Yanick would not explain the discrepancy between former Oz\u2019s statements and his current pro-life messaging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will be a bold voice in the Senate and a proud champion for the pro-life movement,\u201d Oz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/dr-oz-raises-eyebrows-swearing-to-defend-the-sanctity-of-life?%3Futm_source=twitter&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_campaign=dwtwitter\">wrote<\/a> in an early March op-ed. \u201cI won\u2019t ever shy away from sharing my pro-life beliefs, even as pro-abortion advocates in medicine, the media, and Big Tech try to silence me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve taken on the establishment countless times before, and I am ready to do it again for the most vulnerable,\u201d he added. \u201cI will always defend the sanctity of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oz also appeared to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-fox-news-grills-senate-candidate-dr-oz-on-when-life-begins-oz-refuses-to-answer\">struggle addressing when he believes life begins<\/a>\u00a0during a December 2021 Fox News hit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a senator, how would you vote?\u201d Fox News \u201cPrimetime\u201d host Will Cain asked Oz. \u201cWhat do you think the laws should be on abortion?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pro-life,\u201d Oz responded. \u201cI do believe in three exceptions, the health for the mother being the primary one, but rape and incest as well. And I would vote to ensure that if the judiciary is reviewing an abortion law that they follow the Constitution, it\u2019s quite clear. That Alabama case is in point did not include those exceptions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, Dr. Oz, that\u2019s currently being debated at the Supreme Court,\u201d Cain said. \u201cSo, setting aside the exceptions, which I appreciate, what about, what is your position as both a doctor and a senatorial candidate on when life begins? When should we draw the line when abortion is legal?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oz responded by emphasizing that \u201cas a doctor,\u201d he appreciates \u201cthe sanctity of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd for that reason, I\u2019m strongly pro-life with the three exceptions I\u2019ve mentioned,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s how I would vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-wrapper\">\n<div id=\"pb-slot-incontent-3\" class=\"ad-unit\" data-google-query-id=\"CO2-q5Lq8PYCFe4A0AQdoVsNSA\">\n<p>\u201cAnd when does that life begin?\u201d Cain pressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, I get it. If I\u2019m pro-life, then that\u2019s a decision that comes back to the sanctity of when you think life does begin,\u201d Oz responded. \u201cAnd I believe it begins when you\u2019re in the mother\u2019s womb.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re in the mother\u2019s womb?\u201d Cain asked. \u201cBut that carries you all the way up to nine months of pregnancy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, of course not,\u201d Oz said \u201cLife\u2019s already started when you\u2019re in your mother\u2019s womb. It\u2019s a rathole to get trapped into different ways of talking about it. We need as a nation to make sure the Constitution is appropriately followed. And people like me and you may be in the same camp, who are pro-life, have our feelings respected.
