CWFA charges that Thomas\u2019 inclusion on the women\u2019s swim team discriminated against women by making the competition unfair.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Lia Thomas just took first place at the 2022 NCAA Division 1 Women&#8217;s Swimming &#038; Diving Championships in the 500 freestyle. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SaveWomensSports?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SaveWomensSports<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UWvDQMYHRJ\">pic.twitter.com\/UWvDQMYHRJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Colin Wright (@SwipeWright) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SwipeWright\/status\/1504586948400369671?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe future of women\u2019s sports is at risk and the equal rights of female athletes are being infringed,\u201d Penny Nance, CEO and president of Concerned Women for America, said in a statement when the complaint was filed. \u201cWe filed a formal civil rights complaint against UPenn in response to this injustice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny school that defies federal civil rights law by denying women equal opportunities in athletic programs, forcing women to compete against athletes who are biologically male must be held accountable,\u201d Nance said.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint said, in part:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Thomas is anatomically and biologically a male with physical capacities that are different from anatomically and biologically female athletes, which extends an unfair advantage and strips female student-athletes of opportunities afforded to them by law.
