Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/woke-businesses-trans-surgeries-for-kids-arent-child-abuse\">has drawn heavy fire<\/a> for calling transgender treatments for children \u201cchild abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On \u201cDeTrans Awareness Day\u201d in early March, people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/detransitioners-flood-social-media-with-testimony-photos-the-darkest-time-in-my-life\">who formerly began gender transition procedures<\/a> flooded social media with their de-transition stories, sharing stories of depression, anxiety, and fear.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter users who spoke out said that they began taking testosterone as soon as they turned 18. These users, many of whom are biological women, described how they did not feel that they \u201cfit in\u201d in high school or middle school and sought to find answers on the internet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started taking testosterone at 18 because i was tired of not fitting in with other girls so thought i\u2019d make a better man instead,\u201d user Allie tweeted. \u201cAn autism diagnosis later and it all makes sense now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Allie, who does not use her last name to preserve her privacy, told The Daily Wire at the time that \u201cthere\u2019s a big problem right now with how hormonal therapy is being given as a rushed treatment for gender dysphoria in young people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That hormonal therapy \u201ctakes precedence over explorative therapy that might help dysphoric people understand why they want to be the opposite sex,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Detransitioner Michelle, a biological woman who told The Daily Wire that she sought to transition to a man, shared that she began\u00a0transitioning in 2010 at age 22 and detransitioned in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI grew up as a tomboy who didn\u2019t fit in,\u201d Michelle tweeted. \u201cI was keenly aware of this by the time I was 7. I was too loud, too bossy, too impulsive, too emotional. I had no idea why it felt like so many people just immediately didn\u2019t like me. My parents enrolled me in social skills group therapy when I was 10.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michelle said she began to discover activist gender conversations on the internet, how her mental health was suffering, and how she became suicidal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was vulnerable, desperate, and young,\u201d Michelle tweeted. \u201cOn top of that, I had people online telling me \u2018if you think you\u2019re trans, you are\u2019 and \u2018cis people don\u2019t think about gender this much.\u2019 I heard the \u2018only 1% regret it\u2019 statistic, and I thought I\u2019d be fine. That could never be me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued: \u201cWhat reasons did I have to not trust them? Why would so many people tell me things that weren\u2019t true? Why would my doctors go along with it if I weren\u2019t really a man?
