Doug Ducey signed three bills Wednesday restricting abortion, child sex change surgeries and male participation in women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n<p>Ducey <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.azleg.gov\/BillStatus\/BillOverview\/76466\">signed<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/legtext\/55leg\/2R\/bills\/SB1138S.pdf\">bill<\/a> into law banning gender reassignment surgeries for minors, which makes exceptions for children born with sex disorders or other medically verifiable issues.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation specifies a long list of surgeries doctors cannot perform on children, including mastectomies, breast augmentation and surgeries in which doctors reconstruct genitalia to resemble that of the opposite sex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a decision that will dramatically affect the rest of an individual\u2019s life, including the ability of that individual to become a biological parent later in life,\u201d Ducey explained in a <a href=\"https:\/\/azgovernor.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/sb1138_sb1165_signing_letter.pdf\">letter<\/a> to Arizona\u2019s secretary of State.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Today, I signed S.B. 1138 and S.B. 1165, legislation to protect participation and fairness for female athletes, and to ensure that individuals undergoing irreversible gender reassignment surgery are of adult age. 1\/ <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BgB0lEU9Um\">https:\/\/t.co\/BgB0lEU9Um<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Doug Ducey (@DougDucey) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DougDucey\/status\/1509241336527917056?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 30, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In anticipation of the Supreme Court\u2019s decision in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/17\/scientific-advancements-abortion-supreme-court-roe-wade-dobbs-jackson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health<\/a>, which could overturn Roe v. Wade, Ducey <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.azleg.gov\/BillStatus\/BillOverview\/76636\">signed<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/legtext\/55leg\/2R\/bills\/SB1164S.pdf\">bill<\/a> banning most abortions after 15 weeks except in cases of medical emergencies. The bill mimics the Mississippi law at the center of the Dobbs case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bill prohibits a physician from performing an abortion past 15 weeks gestation, except in a medical emergency,\u201d Ducey <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DougDucey\/status\/1509241339954704391\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a> on twitter. \u201cMany states are taking similar action to protect life. We hope that the U.S. Supreme Court will uphold a similar Mississippi law in the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.azleg.gov\/BillStatus\/BillOverview\/76637\">signed<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/legtext\/55leg\/2R\/bills\/SB1165S.pdf\">legislation<\/a> that bars males from <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/23\/eric-holcomb-indiana-spencer-cox-utah-transgender-sports\/\">girls\u2019 sports<\/a> teams and protects schools from complaints and investigations for maintaining sex-segregated teams. The law applies to K-12 schools and higher education.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration\u2019s Department of Education is expected to finalize <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/news\/press-releases\/statement-us-secretary-education-miguel-cardona-florida-state-legislatures-parental-rights-education-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">updates<\/a> to Title IX regulations in the coming weeks which would endanger the law and similar efforts in other states by banning discrimination on the basis of gender identity, The Washington Post reported. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/30\/biden-admin-just-weeks-away-from-extending-title-ix-to-trans-students-report\/\">(RELATED: Biden Admin Just Weeks Away From Extending Title IX To Trans Students: REPORT)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cGirls deserve to compete on a level playing field,\u201d Alliance Defending Freedom senior counsel Emilie Kao <a href=\"https:\/\/adfmedia.org\/press-release\/az-gov-ducey-signs-three-bills-protecting-women-children\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cWhen the law ignores biological differences, women and girls bear the brunt of the harm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ducey pointed out in his letter that transgender children can still participate in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/22\/ron-desantis-female-swimmer-ncaa-championship-emma-weyant\/\">sports<\/a> under the legislation, but are required to play according to their <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/25\/arizona-kentucky-oklahoma-transgender-sports\/\">biological sex<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis legislation is common-sense and narrowly-targeted to address these two specific issues \u2060\u2014 while ensuring that transgender individuals continue to receive the same dignity, respect and kindness as\u00a0 every individual in our society,\u201d Ducey said in the letter.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
