One story from \u201cStill Just a Geek: An Annotated Memoir\u201d recounts how the actor had an unfortunate encounter with \u201cStar Trek\u201d legend William Shatner when he was just a teen. According to Wheaton, Shatner was rude to him but later sent him a handwritten apology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Wheaton was 16 and playing Wesley Crusher on \u201cStar Trek: The Next Generation\u201d when he found out that the original \u201cStar Trek\u201d cast would be filming nearby, the New York Post <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/31\/wil-wheaton-remembers-william-shatner-a-a-real-jerk-on-set\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>. The young fan was excited yet nervous to meet one of his idols.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201cBig Bang Theory\u201d alum recalled how he was wearing his gray \u201cacting ensign\u201d spacesuit when he approached Shatner.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt took about eight steps for my confidence to evaporate,\u201d Wheaton recalled in the book.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSo you\u2019re the kid on that show?\u201d Shatner asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHe seemed annoyed,\u201d Wheaton continued. \u201cMy throat and mouth were dry, and my palms were sweating. My heart pounded in my ears, as I answered, \u2018Uh, yes sir. My name\u2019s Wil.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Wheaton claimed Shatner ignored his outstretched hand, then went on to make fun of his outfit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c\u2018What is that, your spacesuit?\u2019 he said, and made a sound that was somewhere between a laugh and a cough,\u201d the actor wrote. He recalled feeling lightheaded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c\u2018I said, \u2018What do you do over there?\u2019 he asked,\u201d Wheaton continued. \u201cThere was a challenge in his voice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>When Wheaton said he was an acting ensign who sometimes pilots the ship, Shatner allegedly replied, \u201cWell, I\u2019d never let a kid come onto my bridge.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>News of the incident spread and other actors made it a point to commiserate with Wheaton, sharing their own stories of being mocked or dismissed by Captain Kirk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Wheaton wrote about how Brent Spiner, who played Data on \u201cNext Generation,\u201d told him that Shatner wore a toupee. Michael Dorn apparently offered to beat up the rude star. Jonathan Frakes, who played Capt. William Riker, said, \u201cTo hell with him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Then Wheaton said he was called into \u201cStar Trek\u201d creator Gene Roddenberry\u2019s office. The showrunner said, \u201cWil, Bill Shatner is an a**, don\u2019t you worry about him, okay? I am so proud to have you on my show. Don\u2019t you ever forget that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201cStand By Me\u201d star said he got an apology from Shatner the next day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He said he found an envelope sitting on his dressing room table addressed \u201cTo Master Wil Wheaton\u201d \u201cFrom the Office of William Shatner.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The message read, \u201cDear Wil, You are a fine young actor, and I would be honored to have you on my bridge any day. Sincerely yours, Bill.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Wheaton recalled how Roddenberry called him on the phone soon after.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c\u2018I spoke with Bill Shatner yesterday, and he should be dropping a note off for you today,\u201d the showrunner said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI couldn\u2019t believe it,\u201d Wheaton wrote. \u201cGene Roddenberry, the Great Bird of the Galaxy and creator of \u2018Star Trek,\u2019 had called WILLIAM F***ING SHATNER, Captain James T. Kirk and director of \u2018Star Trek V,\u2019 and asked him to apologize to me, Wil Wheaton, 16-year-old acting ensign and drooling fanboy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He concluded, \u201cOf all the wonderful gifts Gene gave me across the years, that is one of the most fondly remembered, because I know that without Gene\u2019s intervention that note would never have been written.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Enter for the chance to hang out with Gina Carano at the premiere of her new Daily Wire movie, Terror on the Prairie!
